I have a post percolating about teaching vs learning... a subject that's near and dear.
I intended to write it tonight, but I have a man who needs attention and snuggling and all that, and it's bedtime.
So Tami, this is a place marker.
It may end up being my post for the day as I need to run errands and make some phone calls, Tuesday is my day off this week, and there's no time like the present and get all my ducks in a row and time's a wastin'... Funny, spell check didn't like some of that. Spell check isn't all that helpful to me most of the time.
One of my kids keeps calling me 'teacher'. A thing I really don't like.
The kids call me by my first name, which is my preference. I don't like 'Teacher Susan' or being called "Mrs." either. I have repeatedly asked her to either call me Susan or my summer camp name, which is Hippie... and 20 seconds later she comes up and slaps my arm to get my attention and calls me teacher.
So today, after I'd asked her about five times not to do that, I started calling her 'kid'.
She didn't like it. It sort of made her mad. I don't want to frustrate or upset a small person, but I don't know what else to do to get the point across to her.
So she was 'kid' about eight or nine times by the time I went home this evening.
We'll see what happens Wednesday.
Tami deeply appreciates the marker so she does not worry. She has enough riding on her shoulders, so letting this one go was nice. :)
ReplyDeleteI even have profound things to say on occasion. But sometimes I just decide that my man has to be the priority. :)
Delete:0) Nothing like snuggle time to soothe ones nerves.
ReplyDeleteWishing you many more. (((hugs)))
I've been reading your letter on your blog. Your heart must be so.. wounded. I wish I could help.
Delete((Hugs to you, too)))
If you're doing any snuggling, it must be a heck of a lot cooler there!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think that's a great way to get someone to remember something... show them firsthand. I'd be willing to bet she'll remember what to call you and what not to call you.
Eventually she will catch on. She's barely six. I'll have her with me during the school year this year. She will certainly get a crash course in 'what to call me 101'.
DeleteIt's lovely here. 80 during the day. 50s during the night.
(sorry)
When I was doing Girl Scouts it was the troop policy to use Miss First Name, not even Mrs. so that really got on my nerves and it's not my thing. And my friend's daughter, who I adore, took her years to stop calling me Miss Mel long after I was no longer helping with the troop...even though I insisted Mel was fine over and over.
ReplyDelete::snort:: I got in trouble in girl scouts for allowing my daughter to call me 'mom'.
DeleteMiss Mel, what happened to your blog?
Hope you are enjoying your evening
