Also not suitable for children.
But I love this guy's videos.
They're scientifically accurate and very interesting, although if you're squeamish, sometimes they're pretty graphic.
Watch this (or find another one from him, they're all pretty good) and then let me know what you think.

Merry Christmas!
If you haven't seen this, go see it. Really.
Trust me.
If you have good speakers, use them.
I had no idea Sandra Boynton was so multi-faceted.
She has a lot of great musical friends, too.
However you celebrate, I hope you are warm, happy, surrounded by people you care about.

You can't spell hatred without Red Hat
The evil migrants are coming! Watch out!!
I don't spend a lot of time watching broadcast news. (Basically none)
But even with that, I have seen bits and pieces, articles on news websites, telling me about the MILLIONS of really bad ILLEGALS (zomgggg) crossing our border, coming to kill us all!
And of course how it's all Joe Biden's fault.
The reason they get away with telling these fucking lies is because it's a concerted effort.
It's astounding to me that people just don't dig deeper.
IF you are one of the people who has fallen for this narrative, please just watch this video.
And if you haven't fallen for it, watch anyway.
So you can tell people they're full of shit when they start spouting the lies.
And after you watch it, ask yourself what else they're lying about.
Go on. It's not long. About 21 minutes. I dare you.

Will You Eat It?
I've had a conversation about this with more than one person.
Back in the days of antiquity, who ate the first artichoke?
Who took one of those nasty looking things and tried to eat it?
"Yuck! This tastes like shit! Here, you taste it!"
And when the next person tasted it, she said, "Oh my god this is terrible. It's bitter and tough and just nasty!"
Then the first guy said, "Well, let's cook it and try it again."
Seriously.
I love artichokes, when they're in season we end up eating one apiece about every week.
But if I were out hunting/gathering and saw one growing, I don't think I'd even try to eat it.
Would you?
Weird looking plant. It looks bitter, like a dandelion. And in case you've never been preparing one and gotten a little of the stuff from the stem on your fingers and then accidentally gotten a taste of that stuff, let me tell you, it IS bitter.
There are tons of foods that make me wonder.
I've eaten some interesting things because my maternal grandparents and great grandparents were, huh, upper income? Not rolling in it, but quite comfortable. One of the things my grandparents really enjoyed was fine food.
After I went to live with them in 1978, they took me with them when they went to fancy restaurants. They also cooked. Well, mostly my grandfather cooked and my grandmother and I ate what he made.
I tried a lot of things I wouldn't have been inclined to try if I'd stayed in John Day, Oregon. Some were okay, some I didn't love.
My favorite discovery wasn't even anything that special on the list of gourmet foods... chocolate mousse. I used to go to Sunday brunch with the grandparents and occasionally the great grandparents and the chocolate mousse was my favorite thing.
I'd like some now, actually.
While I was reading stuff on Twitter this afternoon, I found this:
can't stop thinking about people that first ate mushrooms they found and just had to go through trial and error of like, this one tastes like beef, this one killed Brian immediately and this one makes you see God for a week
It made me laugh, but when I think about it, it's funny but true.
When I lived in Eastern Oregon a whole family we knew got really sick after eating some bad mushrooms. I don't know what they ate, and they didn't die, but one of the kids I went to school with told me he wanted to die when he was sick in the middle of the night after ingesting them.
When my kids were young, Sesame Street was a big part of our routine.
One of the segments had the characters trying new foods in a game show format. Hosted by the inimitable Guy Smiley, a food would be presented to a character (my favorite was Prairie Dawn) and the host would say something like, "This is broccoli!"
The character would look at it, then Guy Smiley would shout, "But will you eat it??!!"
They always said yes. They'd try anything, those silly Muppets.
I looked for one of the episodes on YouTube and was disappointed not to find THE episode.
But I found this one, and it made me smile. If you're in the mood to watch...
What's the weirdest thing you have eaten?

From the past...
I don't know what radio station they were playing, but a song came on that I haven't heard in more than 30 years.
Which makes me, well, old.
I must be. AARP has started sending me letters. But nevermind that...
The song made me smile and remember waaaay back. I was about 15 when this song came out. Isn't this guy adorable?
His name is David Dundas, and I've found in my reading that he's actually Lord Dundas... which means nothing to me, but evidently it's a big deal elsewhere.
He's just so... cute.
:)
The dancers/music video cracked me up, too. Pretty tame by today's standards.
And I don't know about you, but I would have preferred just to watch the guy sing.

And now, a word from our sponsor
I'm not in all that great a mood now, really.
But this was so cute I had to share.
Maybe if I watch it a time or two, I'll feel better.

Sweden's Got Talent, too!
He has bits and pieces from all over, and I learn quite a bit from reading there.
Wednesday, he posted a link to this video.
I'm still laughing today, so thought I'd pass it on.
If you have room in your blogroll and time in your day, Peter's blog is an interesting read.
Enjoy the video.

I am not an exciting person.
Good stuff.
Reminds me I have a colon.
::snort::
Viewed a new-to-me Pilates video and an also new-to-me Yoga video, both found at Goodwill. I am planning to try the Yoga this morning, although I know from watching it that I won't be able to do as many reps as the amazingly fit woman in the video.
Baby steps.
I figure as long as I try, as long as I am not giving up, I'll progress. I'm being careful about what I eat, too, although it's not as good as it could be. It's better than it was even six months ago.
Again, baby steps.
I'm not in a huge hurry, that way lies destruction as Jan so honestly and openly put it in this post. I started reading Jan's blog long before her weight loss.
She just says what she thinks, and sometimes in a wickedly funny way that makes me laugh.
I commented on someone else's blog this week that I just can't let it all hang out... but that I am wholly fascinated with those blog and bloggers who can. Jan's one of them.
That's really the reason I debated starting a private blog. I have things to say that I can't quite manage to post here... too many people who know me personally, I think.
I haven't ruled it out permanently, but won't be doing it any time soon.
I'm a little behind on things tonight, so you get a video for Monday's post.
These guys cracked me up with their Mother's Day video, and not so much on most of the others. This one, though, made me laugh.

Blast from the Past
Posted this today on her blog. It's been a long, long time since I heard it. (You made my day, Shirl.)
I played it for Lyssa this morning and it cracked her up, too. Although I don't lack inspiration this morning, I do lack the time to write.
Today is yoga day at my friend N's house.
I don't know how long I'll continue to go to her house for it, though.
I purchased a DVD this week (Borders emailed me this morning to let me know it has shipped) and picked up a mat and a strap yesterday at Target.
I have a couple VHS tapes that I found at Goodwill, too, so I can vary it a bit.
Anyway, have fun with the video. Watch the guy to your left of the singer. He's hysterical.

To get you in the holiday mood
It's always hard to find this one on the internet. Every year, the link I have is no longer good and I have to search elsewhere. Aren't you glad I'm here to handle that for you and that you don't have to go look yourself?
:)

I'm torn...
Sunshine tells me that I'll be getting more as people take time off for vacations and other things.
I scheduled quite a bit of time off myself, too. The trip to Butthump, oral surgery, Girl Scout expeditions, and a day here or there that I just arbitrarily listed as times I'd be unavailable sort of cut my hours, too.
Last summer, there weren't very many people available to work, and I ended up working far more than I wanted to. This summer, just about everyone wanted to work. Since I am not a site director ( I DO NOT want to be one. No. Thanks. No no no no no no.) my hours aren't a priority. Also, we don't have as many kids this summer. The economy sucks if you hadn't noticed, and child care is not cheap.
So I have had time to clean the house a bit, make meals, keep up with the laundry, do a bit of decluttering, hang out with the kids, shop a little and relax. I appreciate it. But I could really use a bit of extra money.
So I'm torn between wanting things to stay this way and spend a little less, or get more hours at work.
It also gives me an excuse to post this video.

Happy Mother's Day
on her blog.
She has four sons, Amy does.
While you contemplate that, go watch the video.
And all you moms out there, enjoy your day.
I love being a mom.
:)
