Our Weekend is (finally!) Over..

And I finally have a few minutes to write about it.

On Saturday, my hubby and son drove to the local Home Depot and bought wood. They spent the rest of that day out on the back porch in the wind and the cold cutting boards, sanding, drilling and assembling kits for FIFTEEN bird houses. One for every girl in my Girl Scout troop. Our geriatric old dog, who loves my hubby more than even FOOD insisted on spending the day lying on the porch at his feet. On Sunday, hubby got up and after a late breakfast, (like noon?) went back outside in the cold and continued the work, accompanied by our old dog,
Maggie . Remember her?

When Eric came in from finishing the cutting, I informed him that the kitchen sink was backed up. Oh joy. He worked on it a bit Sunday evening, but could not find the clog.

When we woke up yesterday morning, we discovered that after spending the weekend on the cold concrete, our poor old dog could not stand up. She used her front legs to try getting up, but all that did was drag her hips across the floor. Eric had to lift her to her feet and help her go outside. I would have called the vet, but we already know she is arthritic and getting older. I can't afford more tests to tell me so, and if there's something seriously wrong with her, we won't be able to afford treatment anyway. Because of her half-lab heritage, she can't take certain drugs, and is unable to tolerate aspirin. It makes her barf. The Synovi G-3 made her incontinent, which didn't make her happy, and caused some interesting moments for us, too. (Ever step in dog pee on your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night?) I did some internet research, and we ended up giving her Orudis, which is ketoprofen. Terrible for her liver, which already has impaired function, but we were desperate. We put her in the living room next to the wood stove to keep her warm.

Hubby went in to work for a bit to get everyone lined up with jobs etc, then came home and loaded all the birdhouse stuff in the car, drove us to pick up our extra scout, and then came to our Girl Scout meeting to help the girls build their projects. It was wildly successful.

When we came home, the dog was at the door to greet us. The Orudis worked. YAY!

Eric drove to the rental yard and rented a big scary looking power tool to open up the drain, took it back to the rental yard, then came home and cleaned up the mess. It would have been a financial disaster for us to have to hire a plumber.
::shudder::

So. Eric did the carpentry work.
He showed what kind of father he is by coming to his daughter's Girl Scout meeting to help everyone with their projects.
Then, he came home and did plumbing. Spent at least another hour under the house working on it before he had it all done.

Guess how many times he moaned, groaned, whined or complained through all this.

Zero.

That's the kind of man I married.

  1. Did I marry his twin? LOL
    We've talked about this before.
Last night (Monday) even though Jimmy took the day off he stayed home with the thre younger ones while I took Jay to register at the mall for the whole Invention;s Convention. Tonight, even though I had the chicken in the oven, he cooked the rest of the meal while Jay, Korinne and I went back to the mall for the awards ceremony.

When we came home, dinner was ready, the kids were all alive (LOL) and the living room, dining room, and hallway were all cleaned and vacuumed.

We married such good men! Next time we IM I'll tell you how good we both have it.

  2. That mand deserves Father of the Year award. What a great guy, you're very lucky. :)

I'm glad to read the Orudis helped Maggie. What a trooper she is too. I hope your week is a little less eventful. Have a great one!
