Still no idea about which classroom I'm going to get if I
am even going to get one at all... no one is answering emails and I
haven't been there in three days.
I was on my way to work when I had the accident Wednesday afternoon, so I haven't seen my kids since Tuesday afternoon. No idea what shape the classroom is in, although my assistant is aware of where our stuff is and what needs to come out/be put away every day, she's not teacher-qualified.
Doesn't mean she isn't capable or smart, it's a licensing thing having to do with how many contact hours a person has had with kids. I'm not sure her years of experience with babies in a day care setting counts under licensing regulations. She's very nice and the kids like her. She's just not... me. When you've been at this as long as I have, a lot of things are just second nature and there isn't a lot of thought involved. I know she probably felt stressed out. I didn't check in with her because I don't want her to think I have no confidence in her, so I've just been sitting here hoping everything is okay.
My employer had to send someone to work with her the past three days. I worked with him at the other school last year, and while he's a nice enough guy, he's a lot like Axel, (makes sense, that's who he worked with) clueless about how things should look/be put away/be handled. He's nice, just not very observant about all the things one should be observant about.
I hate missing work.
I could probably have worked today, although my back is a little sore and my neck still feels... hot. But I couldn't get there.
Why?
Why, because the rental car coverage I pay for on my monthly insurance premiums is no good if the car rentals don't have anything available! We ended up making multiple phone calls to our insurance and to various rental car places and the best most of them could do was 'maybe' Wednesday.
Seriously? What the hell am I paying for? I guess I'm old fashioned expecting any level of customer service, but once we ran into issues getting a car I think the insurance agent should have jumped in and tried to find us one.
Eric finally took over the phone calling and found me a car so I can get to work next week. We have to drive all the way to fucking Beaverton to get it, though. Yippee.
Then, I heard from the person who hit me. Her insurance company is trying to weasel out of paying. She said they tried to take her insurance premium two days early and the money wasn't in the account, so when she hit me, they're trying to say she wasn't covered. She called me yesterday and told me all that as well as that Wednesday was her son's 7th birthday. She again expressed her regret about not seeing me and driving out into my lane and smacking my car. She seems like a nice person. It was just one of those things, you know? She assured me that even if her insurance doesn't come through for her she will be responsible for the damages and all the bills. She texted me this morning to find out if I know how much the damages are yet. I don't. Haven't heard from the repair place.
It's not my problem really, I already turned everything over to my insurance. They will pay for everything and it's up to them to collect. Where they get the money doesn't affect me.
The lessons I learned from the accident in 1995 are quite helpful now. That accident (also not my damn fault) totaled my car and messed me up a bit.
The guy who hit me was such a bad driver that he was reduced to buying state risk pool insurance. He'd had so many accidents that he couldn't get regular insurance. What a dick. Shouldn't have been driving. If you ask me. Go ahead. Ask.
His name was Seth. Which tells you that his parents were closely related. He probably sends a 'Happy Birthday Uncle Daddy' card every year. If he knows which uncle was his dad... I'm sure he did not. Inbred crotch-digging moron.
So we're getting up early and driving to Beaverton (22 minutes according to my GPS but it will be a half hour at least... I know it) to get me a car for ?? Not sure how long. At 25 bucks a day, with coverage up to 600 it should be okay until I either get my car back or have to go get another one. I do NOT want to have to do that. Cross your fingers.
Meanwhile, my hot neck is telling me to go to bed and stop sitting in front of the computer.

First of all you shouldn't even be talking to her. CALL your agency. They need her info and they should do all the talking and negotiating. How do you even know what she is saying is true? Maybe after she realized she would be paying more she never told them and made this all up. Do not discuss this with her. Call your agent STAT. Did either of you call the police for a report when the accident happened? Ooh I wish you good luck - now go call your insurance agent!
ReplyDeleteOh my agent is up to date. Passed along all the other driver's info already. Her insurance company DID call me, said they would call back this week. It doesn't matter, MY insurance is handling everything. Now that I have a rental (had to get up early on a SATURDAY dammit) I just can sit back and wait for stuff to get fixed or whatever they're doing. I filed my report with the DMV, police don't come out to accidents here unless there are serious injuries or someone is on fire. I know there are shitbag scammers out there, but I'm not too worried about this one. Even if she had no insurance, I would still be covered and my insurance company would deal with everything. That's why I pay 'em. :)
DeleteI hate dealing with bureaucracies like insurance companies.
ReplyDeleteI hate it, too. It's comforting to have a good insurance policy, though. I don't like dealing with it because it's NOT FAIR DAMMIT but knowing that I don't have to do anything other than wait to find out what's up with my car is great. I don't have to worry about her insurance paying or not paying. It's hugely inconvenient, but shit happens. Now I worry about whether they're going to total my car or just fix it. I *can* go get another car, but that doesn't mean I want to.
DeleteSorry that happened. Insurance companies are like leaches. Yes your company will pay and then subrogate with the other company. Hope your neck heals soon and you're able to get back to work. Fingers crossed the car is repairable to you don't have the added expense and headache of needing a new one.
ReplyDeleteHad to go get a couple things from my car this afternoon to take to work, so stopped by. The ferret-faced guy who runs the place (I really don't like him) told me that I can drive the car until NOVEMBER and then they can fix it? So now I have to turn in the rental car and drive a smashed up one for awhile. I don't really care all that much, the biggest pain is that I have to drive the car alllllllll the way across town when there is an Enterprise rental place within walking distance of my car.
DeleteGahhhhhh.
I thought I left a comment here. I know I read this. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteI came back to have you leave a comment on https://mikenet707.blogspot.com/2022/09/5644-crazy-blogger.html .
