So it's a bit of a story, and not really mine to tell.
I'd love to share the details, but not without permission, which I didn't get before I sat down to write this evening.
But Lyssa and Mason had made plans to move back to Michigan. Those plans have changed now and they're staying, but they were planning to leave within the next month.
Because they've been planning all along to get married, I asked them to do it before they left so I could be there.
So even though they're no longer leaving (yay!!) the wedding is on the 11th.
I didn't have a lot of time to plan.
And of course there's housecleaning, Bob is coming to visit, I am starting a new job...
Still happy to be able to be there for them and with them.
You've heard of Bridezilla, right?
My kid is no Bridezilla. :)
She wants something low-key and quiet.
So we're going to a local park (I rented a picnic shelter) and having a picnic.
Cupcakes instead of a wedding cake, flowers on the tables instead of a bouquet, and an ordained family member who will perform the ceremony without sprinkling gawd everywhere.
I've ordered most of the stuff we're using from Amazon, although I did try to get things locally.
I went to the local craft stores where there was almost no selection of ribbon, no bricks of Oasis (that's the green foamy stuff that you find in flower arrangements) and nothing that caught my eye.
So I ended up getting a bunch of things from Amazon. They're not even all here yet, but I have confidence (based on nothing, really) that they'll show up in time.
I did find some great glass containers to do the arrangements in at Goodwill, and have found a few other things here and there.
I start work on September 1st. Bob arrives on the 6th. I asked for the 10th off so I can do the flowers and get everything as ready as possible. And then the 11th is the big day.
It's going to be a very calm and quiet day.
Hoping it will be perfect for them.
And I'll be taking a lot of pictures to share with my parents who can no longer travel.
I'll even post some here.
Hoping for good weather and happiness.

What great news, that they are getting married soon and staying! I hope all goes perfectly, but if it doesn't then there's plenty to talk and laugh about on each anniversary. :-)
ReplyDeleteI just feel glad they are staying. And I am really pleased that Lyssa just trusts me to do the decorations and flowers etc. She's such a practical and down to earth kind of person, I love it.
DeleteI look forward to seeing some pictures of the big day.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited about it... not every day my baby girl gets married! Matt and Amy just celebrated their 7th anniversary last week. Our 41st is coming up on November 1st. Guess fall is a good time to get married. :)
DeleteSome of the marriages I know that have lasted had simple low keyed weddings.
ReplyDeleteOurs was pretty small. If we had it to do over again, it would have been even smaller and less fancy. My grandparents talked me into waiting until they could be there and insisted on paying for a reception etc. So far we seem to be making it okay...
DeleteCongrats and I'm sure it will be fabulous. The Man and I eloped to Vegas, had nobody there with us, did the Chapel on the Strip... and have enjoyed a long Marriage and hilarious Memories from that hasty Wedding where only my Mom knew, since she watched my Kids for us while we were gone.
ReplyDeleteI am working to make it nice but calm and even though it's an EVENT, Lyssa doesn't want an EVENT. :) So it will be a short ceremony and then a picnic reception. With a lot of cupcakes.I will be taking photos, my parents are unable to attend.
DeleteEloping to Vegas is a thing I have heard of often but I don't actually recall meeting anyone who actually did it, so hey, a first for me. :-D
I wanted everything low key when I got married and no one listened to me. They spent a ton of money they didn't need to and then griped about it. I would have happily eloped. Needless to say it all went fine, but I wish it would have been simpler. And people less jerky. I hope your baby gets her wish!
ReplyDeleteWe are doing things exactly the way she wants them done. The ceremony itself is going to be conducted privately because neither one of them are comfortable standing up in front of a bunch of people. My son is licensed to perform the ceremony, so he's going to make sure they're married and we're going to have a reception at the park, picnic lunch and cupcakes. I have spent about 300 dollars or so, probably spend another hundred on flowers and incidental stuff I forgot or otherwise want to include. Easy. Calm.
DeleteI'm sorry you didn't get to have your stuff done your way. If we had it to do over, we would have done things differently for sure.
