Communication Skills

Every shift ALLLL of the site directors have to check in.

This is a process that involves picking up the telephone, calling whatever site one is assigned to and saying something like 'hey I showed up'.

It actually frustrates me. I've been working for this company more than two years. Have never missed a shift except for vacation time.

EVERYONE has to call, though. Apparently there have been several incidents where people just decided they no longer work for the company and just... don't show up. Which is a chickenshit thing to do, really. Hell, I even gave that old buffalo Fluffy 10 days notice, which was 10 days more than she deserved. That is one instance that I'd have liked to just not show up!!

Imagine that. Just not showing up on the first day of school and letting her scramble. Ah well, too late for me to do that, I guess.

But (say it with me) I digress.

So a couple weeks ago, there were several sites running full day programs due to a teacher inservice. So some sites were closed. I called the site I was supposed to check in with and got no answer. I didn't have a copy of the list of which sites were open/closed. I tried to call again five minutes later, but I didn't get anyone again. So I gave up and did my job.

Then my manager-who-has-the-title-but-isn't-managing-much-of-my-site-if-any wanted to know why I hadn't notified Tim that I didn't get an answer at my check in site.

::sigh::

No damn communication.

So. At the last long damn meeting, the issue was brought up. Several people 'didn't let us know' that the other school wasn't answering the phone.

Okay, fine.

So today, I got to work and picked up my phone to call and check in. No answer. Waited a few minutes. Called again. No answer.

So I used the pager and paged the person connected to it.

I let him know that there was no answer, and he said, "Oh yeah. The heating system is broken, no school there today."

So while I was trying to nap my sorta manager texted me wanting to know why I hadn't let someone know that 'my' check in site hadn't answered.

Well goddamn. I DID let someone know. I fucking paged someone,talked to him on the phone and HE SITS AT THE DESK IN THE SAME DAMN CUBICLE as my sorta manager.

So I endeavored to be polite. Texted back what I'd done.

Gets even better. They told me that there would be no school at that site today, so when I got to my site this afternoon, I texted Sorta to let her know that I showed up for work.

No answer.

THEN the other school called me at 2:15 to find out if I'd showed up for work since they hadn't heard from me. Well fuck a duck, I heard that the school was to be CLOSED all day.

I swear, the communication at this place is just crap.

Crap crap crap.

I like to be left alone to do my job.
I don't have a lot of appreciation for stupidity and disorganization. Both of which are well supplied where I work.

::sigh::

I just want to be left alone to do my job. That's it.

I suppose I'd appreciate better communication,too. I doubt that I'll be getting it, but I can dream.
