But I can tell you I said this: "I am not capable of providing proper care for Louis' special needs, and because of those same special needs, I feel that the level of care I am providing to the other children is not adequate. I spend an inordinate amount of time monitoring, intervening or attempting to redirect Louis and having to ignore or delay care for the other kids.
This is not fair to anyone. The team of professionals employed by the school district have had years of specialized training yet are not able to or expected to manage his care alone.
How is it that I'm expected to do so?
I've done everything I know how to do.
And
after our meeting on Thursday in which we discussed several ways to
support him, I realized that there has been almost no discussion
about how to support me.
I feel that Louis is a danger to himself and unsafe and unpredictable around the other children.
If
it is the intention of the SDCC to continue allowing Louis to attend the
after school program, then for the safety of everyone involved, I
formally request a second adult on site each time he attends until his
issues are resolved
or until he is no longer a part of my program."So we'll see what happens. My manager told me on Thursday that 'staffing shortages' are what keeps them from being able to help me on a regular basis. I stopped walking next to her and looked at her face. "I guess someone needs to adjust priorities."I didn't really get a response.
We'll see if I get one this time.
She may be a manager, but she is more of a representative of the upper managers... she's been told what to say and how to say it. And since they don't have extra staff, (gee, I wonder why it's so hard for them to keep employees??) its been decided that I don't really need anyone.
Here's the thing, though. By my putting everything in writing, all my safety concerns are listed. So if he does hurt someone, I've registered my worries. Tried to cover my own ass as best I can.
And although I don't want the bullshit hassle of trying to find still another job, I know that I *can*.
I'm just still hoping I won't have to.
Just a suggestion. Talk to an insurance specialist about personal liability insurance, sometimes called errors and omissions insurance. Money may be tight but protecting what you and your husband have worked to acquire may be worth it.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you think it's most likely the legal action will come from?
DeleteCurious.
Any parent whose child is hurt or Louis' father.
