Shazaam!

Don't you hate it when reality comes up and smacks you in the head?

When this posts, I will hopefully be asleep. Since it will post at one minute past midnight.

Our school district has called for a two hour delay for tomorrow morning, meaning that I don't have to get up until around 7. I'll take it.

My car is still frozen tonight (it's almost 9 right now) and I'm hoping things warm up overnight rather than the threatened 'possible freezing rain' that may be headed our way. It's still possible that school will be closed again tomorrow.

So I mentioned that we have a person on our staff who's not suitable for what she's doing. There's a lot of concern among veteran staff (again, I stress that I don't believe children are in immediate danger, otherwise I would have acted long before now) because of her issues. I know I mentioned that I'm going to be the one who starts the shit. Why? Because I've been elected to lead the charge. Go up the line. Over someone's head. Make that phone call. I did not protest, I am willing to stand up for what's right when I can.

It's not the first time I've had to do it. I'm not sufficiently optimistic, I guess, because I don't believe it will be the last time, either.

I will have my talking points written down. Definitely something I don't want to mess up. I don't like the necessity of dealing with this, but when you dig through all the layers that are my job, the core... the most important thing out of them all... is making sure we are caring for the whole child. If that's not happening, I have pledged to stand up for the children in my care. Seriously. Like a whole company pledge thing. We all had to sign one. So when there's a question of what I should do, I look at that central fact and act accordingly. Sometimes it's not easy.

So I don't have internal conflict over making sure our kids are adequately cared for, but I have nervous feelings all the same. Wish me luck. I really can't say more here about what's going on.

Meanwhile, it's time to head for bed and try to figure out a project for the kids to do tomorrow morning. We haven't been in program since December 18th, so they'll be happy with just about anything I get out for them, I think.

But my whole program is in the closet, and I'm going to have to haul things out when I get there in the morning. I'll have to leave a little early for work.

Wish me luck on that other thing, willya?

  1. I am with you all the way! On the phone, in the listener's ears, wherever you need me, I'll be there!(not really, I live a bit too far away, but you get my point) Enjoy the project and careful on the road please...
