Dust and Cobwebs

Not only in my house but apparently all over my blog, too. In the days leading up to the great parental visit of 2015, I did some sweeping, mopping, clearing of clutter and general neatening of our public areas. (Read that carefully, it says PUBLIC!... hahahaa) I swept cobwebs from the corners, unknown substances from the edges of the floor and I even cleaned the bathroom. The bathroom really doesn't get that dirty with just the two of us here, we're both fairly clean.

Sitting here at the kitchen table, though, I see that I forgot to dust one of my shelves. There are cobwebs on the front and a layer of dust visible.

Ah well. I have feet of clay. I admit it. I doubt anyone is surprised.

It's been a busy week. We did the setup for summer on Thursday and Friday last week. I was scheduled to work on closing down my program/setting up for summer the first 3/4 of the day and then hanging out with kids the last 1/4 on both days.

Worked okay on Thursday but I ended up getting someone else to take my shift on Friday with the kids and went shopping with our manager instead. Decorations and a little of this and that.

Some large looms were ordered by mistake for our new site. The site director said not just no but HELL no, and the company did not want to ship them back. So, realizing that keeping the hands of children busy, busy, busy is a good idea and I'm nothing if not receptive to their need to fiddle around, (makes my job easier)  I said something like hey give them to me and I will set them up at home and puzzle it out and bring it in for summer, then take them to my site for the kids.

So my new manager not the same as the old manager said something like ok. I don't know yet how they work, it was a busy few days getting ready for my mom and dad to come visit, too.

I went to Goodwill with my manager and found some interesting things. Which she paid for. I had chosen one of these, thinking I'd pay for it myself so I would be able to bring it to my site after summer. It was 20 bucks. But it was brand new, still in the carton and I have so many boys and a few girls who'd be interested in trying it and I figured what the hell... and she said, "I'll buy it for you."

She also purchased three really big bags of yarn. I chose them for the interesting textures and colors, thinking they'd be great for the new loom(s). I like that there are two of them, that means more than one person can work at the same time.

The instructions are pretty easy, but it's made for a classroom of small people. So they are using ribbon and other very thick objects to weave. It's to come off the loom on dowels for display. I'll have to figure out a better way to display their creations, as we won't be using the ribbons or chunky things and I'd like the things they make to have some permanence rather than trashing them afterward so we can re use the dowels.

So that is the beginning of me, catching up with you. I will try to get back into the groove here this week, already have two more posts started.

Time for a hot shower. I am fervently hoping the hot water will chase away the last of the nasty headache that's currently clamping my entire brain in a vise.
