Squeeeeeeeekkkkk!!

I'm about 99% certain that my phone call didn't cause the change, but the orthotics were approved today.

I called to ask about them, wanting to know why, if the doctor's office called while I was sitting there in a treatment room and asked for (and received!!) pre-authorization, why did they change their minds in between the slopping of fiberglass onto my feet and the arrival of my new orthotics?

The (seriously nice) person on the other end of the telephone attempted to read me the relevant information from my insurance policy, but made mincemeat out of pronunciation of medical terms. It was sort of funny, but I didn't laugh at her. Instead, I let her muddle through all three or four paragraphs without interrupting.

When she was finished, I said, "Okay. But where did it say that you'd withdraw your approval for the orthotics after you pre-authorized them. Was that supposed to happen during manufacture? Was it supposed to happen after I brought them home? I'm confused here. Because you paid for them a couple years ago, I need new ones for the same condition and diagnosis. Nothing has changed."

She said that she'd need to put me on hold a moment.
Said, "You won't be able to hear me but I'll be able to hear you."

I guess she thought I might laugh at her butchery of the medical terms, I don't know. I wouldn't. Hell, I probably couldn't have pronounced them either.

So then she came back on the line and told me that 'sometime today' the orthotics had been approved.

So whatever happened, whether it was my phone call, the call from the Podiatrist's office or cosmic forces, I will have my new feets.

For which I am properly grateful.

    1. I asked the girl on the phone if she'd like me to text or email a photo of my feet with inside ankle bones touching the floor. She said, "No, thank you."

But I bet she would have liked seeing them. It's sort of weird. :)
