Like water...

Tossing money all over the damn place.

Eric needed new boots for work. Those are not cheap. They're worth the money he spends, he puts a TON of mileage on his feet and he has to be comfortable. So I am glad he got them.

I got new shoes, too. Mesh so my feet won't be panting. Ughh.

We wandered all over town on Saturday. Boots. Shoes. I visited the craft store to get those handy snap-in jeans buttons for Eric to put in his work truck glove box while Eric picked up a couple items for work at a different store.

We went to Goodwill, something I don't ordinarily do on a Saturday because it's usually too crowded. But we did anyway. I scored a terrific little book about math games one can do with dice and playing cards with kids. So now I can plug those things into my lesson plans. They're simple activities with catchy names, and the kids will have fun with them. Eric found a new backpack thing to haul his work lunches in and an expensive polyester undershirt thing that cost a ton of money in the sporting goods stores for about $3.50. Half price on the blue tags today.

We visited the library. I'm late to the party, but have been reading The Hunger Games. I found book 1 and 2 at Goodwill, but finished Catching Fire this week and wanted to read the third, Mockingjay.

So I found that.

At the end of the school year last year, one of the parents gave me a gift card to Red Lobster. Fifty bucks! I was stunned. And she tucked the gift card into a lovely letter.

I was once again reminded that not everyone sees me as a babysitter. Her son is a very mature, decent kid. Full of integrity and compassion and intelligence. An only child. He went on to middle school, will be in 7th grade this school year. I miss having him around, I really enjoyed his presence in my program.

And that gift card sat in a basket on my kitchen table for a year. We were waiting for what felt like the right time to use it.

We decided tonight might be the right time, and we went out to dinner. It was a lovely meal and it ended up costing us $4.56. I added a tip to it, bringing it to a little over 16 bucks. Not bad for all that good food.

I had pineapple upside down cake for dessert. It's never been something that I couldn't live without, but sounded good.

Oh. My. God. I could have married that cake.
Foodgasm.

Now we're sitting here watching Lincoln. Eric says they have done okay with the historical aspects of it, but that focusing on the last few months of his life really doesn't do justice to the story. Doesn't explain adequately what kind of man he was and the amazing contributions he made to our country.

I'll be turning off the computer, throwing my tangly stuff up here on my little table, and watching the rest of the movie between drawing those little lines and swirls here in a few.

It occurs to me that today would have been boring to some people.
But I didn't mention that we took our little car through the automated car wash. That was amusing, too. Another five bucks. But no more dried bird shit all over the driver's side of the car. For now anyway.
