Zentangly stuff. Some of the kids loved it, some were sort of 'meh'. But Arielle* sat down with me this morning and I taught her a few tangles that I knew she'd be able to do. She did a great job, and was happy with the things she drew, showing them to other staff as they came in, and saying several times she couldn't wait to show her dad.
Her parents both have encouraged her love of drawing, always making a big deal of what she's done, but not insincerely. She feels good when people comment on her art work favorably and it makes her want to draw more.
I know how she feels, I feel the same way.

The custodian at our summer site was not thrilled when he learned our program would be held at his school, but we have worked really hard to be good neighbors and guests and I think we've won him over.
Tomorrow we're presenting him with a tie dyed shirt and have invited him to join us for a special lunch. Our goodbye party.

Bunch of stuff loaded in my car to take to my site on Thursday. I have so much that needs to be done and so little time in which to do it.

Social Media.
I love my blog. I love reading other people's blogs. They're a deeper glimpse of people. I seriously dislike Facebook, wouldn't consider being a Twit, and can't understand most of it. I find it hilarious when news stations tell us that 'so and so tweeted' about this or that. Especially when so and so is some macho man or mean assed big shot executive.
Our local newspapers and television stations have mostly gone to FB for their commenting format. So I made a FB account to be able to leave comments, but it's NOT the real me. And even though I enjoy leaving comments, I'm still not sure it's worth it, and might end up deleting the stupid thing.
I wrote to the local newspaper editor after they changed formats and congratulated him on killing meaningful dialog.
Haven't heard back.

My family watches Master Chef. I phrased that carefully, since I don't watch television. But lately, my computer is in the living room so I can be with the fam in the evening, and I've seen a few episodes.
Is it just me or are the 'meals' they make sort of like modern art or the emperor's new clothes? Very pretentious and low in substance, most of the time not even pretty, put together in a weird way. It can't possibly be satisfying to eat one of those dishes... no bigger than a fart bucket, as my grandma used to say.
It's a show that cracks me up, anyway. And one of the chefs, don't ask me his name, is a very large man. Much larger than a person who only eats those little teeny servings of basically nothing. I'm guessing he has a stash of twinkies or chocolate somewhere, and I bet he's not afraid of a good steak, either.

I am done getting up at 5 until Tuesday, when I'll be doing it five days a week. Because summer is OVER.
Twelve weeks went by awfully fast.

And news on the work comp front..
Evidently we won our case, but the comp insurer's attorney has filed appeals, they don't want to pay their bills and take care of me. My guess, based on the one check that was accidentally sent to me that should have gone to one of their doctors and the amount of attorney fees they were ordered to pay is that they've spent three times the amount it would have cost to just fix my knee instead of trying to avoid it.
So we have another hearing coming up in October.
I'm sure any medical examinations will be scheduled ON PURPOSE during working hours, too.
On the other hand, after the first hearing, in which I was NOT really given an opportunity to speak, I wished for a do over. Looks like I have one.
And I will do a lot better this time... know how you look back and say to yourself, "I should have said______."?
I'm ready this time.
And I'll be talking to my attorney again this week, and perhaps we'll have a little surprise.

The thing that bothers me the most about all this?
No, not the pain.
Not the sleepless nights with pain/anxiety.
Not the things I've missed out on with my family.
Not the money I've had to spend for all kinds of things.
What bothers me the most? Their not taking responsibility for my on the job injuries is a question of my personal integrity. And I may not have much, but that has always been something I've had and been justifiably proud of.
Humanitarian and Philanthropist Inc.?
No integrity.
Which in a strange way is sort of satisfying to me because it makes me better than them.
Wow. It's that time of year for so many people - back to school/not back to school. I hope you have a fabulous year!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that summer is over, since I don't care for it. Though I know plenty of people are going to miss it. :)
STILL with the WC case? Damn it. D:< It is such crap, I don't even know what to say. I guess there is nothing to say. You get hurt on the job (or anyone gets hurt on the job, in an accident, etc.) and insurance carriers just NEVER want to pay. Funny how that's what they're paid to do, yet they fight it so hard. In a way, it makes me miss being a paralegal - the satisfaction of seeing someone deserving win their case was always a good feeling.
So good luck fighting the appeal!!!
Good luck with the appeal! You KNOW I have a special interest in your outcome, since my son was screwed nine ways to Sunday!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me to get my knee checked, er, get the Drs. checked who haven't returned my calls about SENDING SOMEONE TO HELP ME--oh well SINCE THEY MADE ME WAIT TWENTY YEARS I guess a week OR TWO...yes, the hit to our integrity--worst thing about courts...LOL, just the chapter I'm working on in my book ...just now, well a fw minutes ago..needed a blog read break. I do FB...learned how to be ok with it, now must blog about that, but could make a book out of it. Amazing what goes on...JOURNALISM??? I think that concept died about 20 years ago...a slow...long...gasping---DEATH. Re Appeal: GO GET EM!
ReplyDeleteDropped in for a visit. Give em HELL. ;0) (((hugs)))Pat
ReplyDeleteA do over for a court case? You are incredibly fortunate.
ReplyDeleteI really dislike Facebook (or as we call it buttbook), but have an account as well. Don't do much with it, but lurk on the kids.
I'm so glad you have an attorney.
ReplyDeleteAnd the integrity thing? They are likely questioning your integrity, because of the fact that they have none of their own. They just assume that everyone is totally lacking it.
