CONTACT!

So Lyssie is off visiting a friend in another state. I miss her. Think of her all day, stuff happens at work and I want to tell her about it, then I remember she won't be home when I get home to share.

I text her on occasion.

Today I texted her several times.

No answer.

I called her cell phone. No answer.

Now those of you who have read here more than a week or two know that I may, possibly have a
teeny little problem with anxiety.

Which is why I take medication to help derail the crazy train on a daily basis, as well as having something in case I'm slammed with an anxiety attack.

This wasn't a medication situation, this was a DO NOT take anything, keep your head clear, oh god what happened to my DAUGHTER and why won't she call??

I won't even tell you where my mind went, but I had a whole scenario of what had probably happened and I already knew the police wouldn't listen to a panicky mother of an adult child who is old enough to travel on her own...

UGH.

So I texted the adult in the family she's staying with and asked her if she would please have Lyssa call me.

And just as I got to the meeting that I had to go to this evening, I finally heard from my girl.

HUGE sigh of relief!!!

I know that I will never stop worrying about my kids, that they grow up and do things here and there... but I don't like that helpless feeling I had for a couple hours this afternoon!!

All is well now. My baby is fine. I can sleep.
:)

  1. I absolutely understand the feeling. It has taken me years to get used to only hearing from a couple of mine, every few weeks.

    1. I want her to be independent. To have fun, to travel, to do... whatever. Well, within reason. :)

But I can't control my worry. Anxiety isn't rational.

    1. I know that it's not just me. And strangely, that's a relief. I may be crazy, but evidently there are others!

  4. Listen. No matter how old your kids are, you are still a mother and they are still your kids, and you will always worry about them.

My son will be 33 next month. He calls me every day. This is because he lives alone and knows I worry about him. I like him to check in with me. He drives a truck and when he makes long distance runs, he texts or calls me when he stops for the night. I don't sleep till I hear from him.

My daughter is 30 1/2, married, just went on a trip. I babysat my granddaughter. She texted me when she arrived. I can't help it. I worry, too.

I'm Italian and Irish. Is it our heritage, or that we're mothers.

Probably just because we are mothers!

    Glad your daughter is okay.

    1. It's the whole mom thing, I think. I was talking to MY mom tonight and she said that she still worries all the time. That it's her JOB. :)

  5. yup, this happens when my husband is late for an hour. less than that, I give him the benefit of the doubt. I wish he was better about just say dropping me an email saying 'on my way' and I 'd know when to get worried..

  7. My own mother is 60 yrs old, HER mother is (almost) 83. When mom goes out of town, I get at least 3 phone calls from Grandma asking if I've heard from mom. My point, even at 83 yrs. old, she still worries about her (very) grown daughter.

I think a "worry bone" is implanted at conception.

    1. I wonder about that, too. It must be. Do men worry like this?

  8. So, okay, what was she doing that she couldn't call you earlier? Because it's too hot to do anything but lay on the basement floor.

    1. She misplaced her cell phone. And it wasn't a big deal, I wasn't MAD at her, I just.. well, I freaked out. Because she's a long way away from me. And I can't do anything from here.

::sigh:: I hope I can relax a little someday.

    2. I didn't mean that like you were mad. But it did sound a little like a was tapping my foot and had my hands on my hips, didn't it. Oh well. It's just soooo hot to the point that I an't imagine doing much of anything so I honestly wondered (although we've been out in it the past 2 nights, but we're apparently crazy).

  9. I freak out like that sometimes, too. Especially since Bugster and I are in almost daily contact with one another. If I don't hear from her for a couple of days and can't get in touch with her my mind starts going in places it shouldn't.

    I hate when that happens.

Glad she's fine and having fun enough to not care that her cell phone was misplaced! :)
