The Milk of Common Sense?

So I had an opportunity to talk to Dustin's mom on Tuesday afternoon, ran into her in the hallway at the school.

Apparently his dad was driving him to school on Monday morning.

I won't tell you what dad does for a living because of possible privacy issues, but he's an extremely intelligent man. You can't do what he does if you're not smart.

However, smart and common sense are not the same thing.

They were nearly to school when Dustin said, "Oh yeah! I'm supposed to bring a milk carton to school!"

And his dad, thinking he meant milk, stopped at the little convenience store and bought him a gallon of milk.

Dustin did not bring it out during the craft project they were doing in his class, there were evidently plenty of milk cartons.

He just decided on his own to save it for the party on Thursday. Didn't mention to anyone that he had it, didn't think about refrigeration.

His mom said that both of them are the same way, Dustin and his dad... smart but without a bit of common sense between them. The milk was dumped out when they got home (it had not soured, for those of you who were wondering) and all was well.

But seriously, for whatever reason (I'm probably nutty) the whole kid-with-a-gallon-of-milk-in-his-backpack thing was one of the funniest experiences I've had while doing this job.
