Disjointed Dreams

I didn't write a post last night before bed. Headache kept coming back on me and is actually creeping back up now, as I start typing. Don't go 'way, I am going to grab a migraine pill before I go any further.

Ah. Back. Now I wait an hour for it to kick in. And then when I get into the shower I'll feel like I have a sunburn everywhere the water touches. It's strange to be in the embrace of a monster. :)

Slept more or less like a brick... when I was sleeping. Problem being headache and hormones and every two hour trips to the bathroom because of those things.

I have recurring themes to my dreams, often being cast in the role of protector of children. One doesn't have to look too far to figure that one out, I'm sure.

Most of the time the circumstances I find myself in are reasonable and possible, but occasionally I find myself in a situation for which no one could ever be completely prepared... a crash landing of a jet in the field beyond the play structure, some kind of monster roaring through the halls and smashing a series of doors to get to me and my kids, hiding in a tiny room (I always wake up before it reaches us... shaking and sweaty and panicky... mixed feelings about waking up, the desire to find out WHAT HAPPENED and are the kids safe?? squaring off against relief that I woke up before IT happened.)

I dreamed that Eric decided to be some sort of counselor, too. (He'd actually be really good at that...)

And the person he was supposed to see on a Thursday afternoon showed up early on a Sunday morning, and didn't like our chairs, so I got out a new one and some tools and was putting one together for her. I was a little crabby about it, and gritted my teeth. Broke off the right front one. Another recurring theme, really. Teeth breaking off. Not sure why.

I also dream of repeatedly dialing the telephone and not being able to get the numbers punched in correctly.
Over and over and over.

It's funny if you think about that word, dialing... since we haven't had dial telephones in, well, forever. Just a holdover from a different era.

Anyway, it's always a familiar but unfamiliar phone and I can't find a way to clear the error and have to hang up and start dialing again. Frustrating, and there's always some urgency to the phone call that makes the delay worse.

About 3, I dreamed that I had to go to the bathroom and that I was in a huge crowd of people somewhere outdoors. I couldn't find a bathroom anywhere. I looked for a line of people, thinking that maybe at the front of the line, I'd find what I was looking for, but the only line of people I saw were waiting for tie dyed socks, being produced by a little man in a tiny booth. They weren't even as good as my socks, either, and he was getting 8 bucks a pair for them!!

Then I woke up to go to the bathroom. Ha.

So I remember bits and pieces of other dreams, and repeatedly surfacing from sleep, but I feel pretty decent this morning anyway.

Except for the headache, but if it goes according to pattern, this is the last day for this month's 'gift' from my hormones.

  1. Wow! Bet you can't wait for menopause!

I lose teeth in my dreams too, and I can't dial the phone. Not much in the way of threats though, but lots of frustration and urgency.

  2. I know I dream, but only rarely can I remember more than a tiny sliver of it, if I remember anything at all. I miss it!

  3. I also dream the phone call thing. Forever hitting numbers that end up being wrong. I press the right key but then it's a different number than what it supposed to be.

I also dream of losing teeth. "They" say that our bite is our ability to bite into things, and therefore the loss of teeth means that we feel unable to control things.

Which, coincidentally is when I dream about losing teeth. When I have WAY too much going on, and feel out of control.

And this concludes our therapy session for the day... you can leave your payment of jelly beans with the woman at the counter...

  4. Oh, man, did I ever dream a bunch last night, too. The one I remember the most was about trying to do laundry. There were piles of both clean and dirty clothes. I was starting to fold the clean clothes, but then realized they were still damp and needed to go back into the drier - multiple loads worth. Gee, I wonder what that means. :)

  5. I have had the teeth dream as a child, they all fell out (anxiety supposedly), the telephone one? I dial 911 over and over and over again because someone is hurt but it doesn't work. When I had my accident, I dialed 911 just fine. Whew! oh and the stupid toilet dreams, I hate those. It's always about peeing. you never get to go, or I suppose if you did, you'd pee the bed, nice of our brains to wake us up, isn't it?

  6. I have the dialing dream too. I'm always trying to dial 911 and can't.

My bathroom dreams are that I have to go and can't find a decent toilet, one with a seat. I go from stall to stall and they are all urinal type things or some other weird thing you'd have to squat over.
