Well, I'll be returning the bugs to her today. Tucked in the bag are her bugs, the container they were in, and a couple other little things.
One of them is this centipede, which I made from a couple pipe cleaners and some beads. A super easy little thing, but it enchanted the kids. Some of them made like 20 of them. If I have a lot of supplies, I try not to limit them, or at least not too much.
They actually made these several days in a row, they're so easy and there are so many color choices.
I didn't get around to writing up the first day of our Spring Break program tonight, stayed online talking to my imaginary friends instead, then it got too late, so maybe tomorrow? Which is today as you read this.

What are the age limits for having those cute little choking hazards on your crafts, laying on the table, and being inserted into mouths?
I'm not even crazy about kids, cute as they are. What do I care? Okay, never mind. One snotty brat more or less ... well, you know. Meh.
"My" kids are K thru 5th grade. We often do projects with itty bitty parts, wiggly eyes and beads and feathers and pieces of this and that... buttons, etc.

I still have Reese*, who has an oral fixation and can often be found chewing on a piece of paper or a little piece of his SHOE for god's sake!!
Those bugs are kinda genius... I am gonna show my niece and nephew how to make them.

ReplyDeleteAnother fun one to do (I don't have a photo, but you can imagine it) is a daddy long legs spider, with any light round object for the body and eight pipe cleaners for the legs.

ReplyDeleteWe do a spider with a pony bead and one pipe cleaner. Cut the pipe cleaner into four equal pieces. Thread them through the pony bead so you have four legs on either side. Fold the tiniest bit of the end of each leg to make a soft 'foot' since pipe cleaners are pretty pokey, arrange the legs to look more like a spider, and with a fine point sharpie, add eyes or other features. If you thread a little piece of string through with the pipe cleaners, you can hang the spider from a necklace or a safety pin.
