Although he will not catch up to me in the birthday department (notice I did not say birthday suit) Eric has a birthday today. He is 49.
When we met, he was 15. And a scant two years later, we were married.
Yes, his dad had to sign to give permission since he was about three months short of his 18th birthday.
And we ended up growing up in the same direction, partly through luck and partly through purposeful communication and aligned priorities. In retrospect, the things we went through would not have been easy for most couples to handle, and it's nothing short of miraculous that we are still together after some of them.
I think it's because we learned very early that no matter what was coming at us, if we faced it together, we'd win.
He is a good man, full of integrity, kindness and heart.
He's been a good husband to me for 31 years, a good father to his children, and is still the person I prefer to spend my time with over any other.
It's HIS birthday, but I feel like I'm the one who got the gift.

ReplyDeleteMy brother and his wife married when she was 14 and he was seventeen and the same was said of them. Her minister even refused to marry them with parent's consent. They saw their 50th a few years back,
Nnt without trials and tribulations.
Nothing is a "Given" and the "Rose Garden" has some thorns, but when all is said and done...they love each other.
