It's Seuss Time

We're having a series of activities and reading of Dr. Seuss books next week. I created a lesson plan that's full of fun for the kids, and plan to join in on as much of it as I can, although I want the kids to do most of it. :)

I was working on the plan on Thursday afternoon. I drew a picture of  The Cat in the Hat, and added it to the little poster I was making.

Evan* was watching, and as I added a photo of Dr. Seuss, he said, "Didn't he die or something?"

When I answered in the affirmative, he said, "Why did he die?"

I told him that I didn't know, but, "I think he just got very old."

He looked at the photo again as Amy* joined us.

"Oh." he said, "He doesn't LOOK old."

Amy said, "Well DUH, he's not dead in this picture!"

So I've been looking around on the internet, and will take in a huge box of Dr. Seuss books that I've saved for the kids to read during our Read Around week.

We'll do a few activities here and there.

I am currently trying to decide what sort of snack would be fun to make, and some activities that would be fun for them to do.

The Seuss website suggests doing activities all about The Lorax, but I don't care to be all preachy about the environment and ignore the absolute fun of Seuss. I think we can do better than that, or at least I hope we can.
:)

I'm hoping to get the company camera back to catch some of our activities in photos. Definitely would be good for the crazy hat contest I have planned.

And totally OT, if you have word recognition on your blog, I am going to stop leaving comments until you either remove it or blogger fixes it... I can't see them correctly for whatever reason, and I'm not willing to spend five minutes trying to comment. Don't take it personally, it's not you, it's your blog.

  1. When my kids were in elementary school, they did the crazy hats and green eggs and ham. Sure was a long time ago.

I've noticed the past few times I've done the word verification, it was easier than it has been. I'm wondering if they've changed it a little bit. It was super hard there for a bit. Perhaps all the complaining going on, has done some good.

  2. The Lorax is my least favorite, I think. I try to pretend it doesn't exist. But the rest of the books will be fun for them! I can't wait to see what you come up with.

I suck at word recognition -- I always type the wrong thing. This has always been the case on all websites for years and years. But for some reason Blogger's accepting my "answers" now. Maybe it's giving me an A for effort?

  3. Dr Seuss is my absolute favorite! His books made reading fun and wondersous for my kids. My eldest read the cat in the hat so many times he can still recite it word for word today.

I have the same problem with the word recognition thing too.

  4. It's a Christmas tradition with my siblings to watch "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". Here we are, in our 50's and 60's, and still singing the song of Whoville!

  5. I honestly have no idea if my blog has a captcha or not. I'm guessing it doesn't since I still get TONS of spam. but if you run across problems, let me know. I'm not on blogger, so if that's the issue, then I guess.. nevermind?
