31 years ago today I said, "I do." in a very traditional wedding ceremony. Church and prayers and white dress and flowers and friends.
If I had it to do over, I wouldn't have done the whole church wedding etc, but I don't regret it. It worked for who I was then and was loaded with the only symbols 19 year old me understood.
I'd still marry Eric today. It's been a wonderful life with him. Yeah, sometimes a roller coaster ride... things get better, then worse, then better, then worse... but those are outside factors.
Between us, things have stayed mostly the same. He's still my best friend. The person whose company I prefer to that of any other person. All the stuff that has been thrown at us by life has been easier to handle because I know he has my back. And I have his.
There's no way to put into words how much our love has grown, how much depth there is to my feelings about this amazing man, or to explain how happy I've been. Every time I try, what I write is just so... plain compared to how I feel. I can't explain what a wonderful husband he is. What a great father. What a staunch and true friend.
So I'll stop here and just spend another day being grateful that I am spending my life with this guy.
Congratulations! You've been married to Eric the majority of your life, and it's working. That's something worth celebrating, for sure.
ReplyDeleteSorry my life was so hectic I forgot to say Happy Anniversary earlier, my friend. I have just what you have--one of the good guys that we were smart enough NOT to let get away. Just another reason you and I get along--we know how lucky we are.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your wedding anniversary.
ReplyDeleteIt warmed my heart to read your words today and while I have felt those feelings that can't be put into words, it's been soooooo long ago,
The worse of the ""better and worse"" has been a tough go through hubby's sickness. Mades me think that I need to work harder to overlook some of the smaller things and try to recapture some of it before there is no husband. sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
THX again for giving me a reminder of how it was and it's up to me to let go of this grudge on what life has dealt me.
Happy Anniversary and many more to you and your Eric. (((hugs)))

ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!!! I love stories like this! People who have found true love and appreciate for one another. It is beautiful that you have spent 31 years together. After the news being bombarded with Kim Kardashian's 72 day marriage, it is nice to see that some people still take marriage seriously. Congrats to you and your husband! I wish you many more happy and wonderful anniversaries!
