Unless you're living in a cave somewhere, you know about the 'Occupy' movement that's spreading here and there around the US.
Various sources have told me that the occupiers are protesting the 'greed of corporate America and Wall Street.'
Well, I can understand that somewhat.
Pisses me off that we bailed out the banks and all we got was a rise in our checking fees (no more free checking) and the attempt to add fees for people who use their debit cards.
Pisses me off that we bailed ANYONE out, really.
I resent the stupid assholes in Washington giving away my money most of the time, but I found the bailouts to be some of the most infuriating things they've ever done to us.
Not that they give a shit. You don't get elected if you have a conscience.
But the whole occupy movement perplexes me.
They're protesting WALL STREET... yet they're turding in our local parks and spitting on the police. Vandalizing.
And as far as I have heard (please correct me if my information is incorrect) what they really want is redistribution of wealth.
They resent 'the rich'. You know... the people who, for the most part have worked and earned their wealth?
They think that those who have should be forced to give MORE to support their sorry, unwashed asses. Instead of doing something to support themselves.
What a load of crap.
I am left with this question... why aren't they all at Wall Street, crapping in the streets and wearing their trendy wool hats? Toting along their laptops and other electronics doesn't lend credence to their cause, either, since capitalism is what got them that stuff in the first place.
So enlighten me.
Where am I wrong here?
You pretty much nailed it. Wall Street itself is not the problem, government policies that permit and encourage parasitic greed are the problem. This "share the wealth" mentality is about changing the names of the parasites; it doesn't address the parasite-friendly environment: Congress.
ReplyDeleteGovernment needs an over-haul !
ReplyDeleteSpecial Interest groups, pork, the Hooray for me and to Hell with you attitude ....HAS TO GO!
The banks, etc. knew what the hell they were doing before they did it and KNEW government would save their ass.
It's the way that government does business that pisses ME OFF
WE are governments slaves! I'll use that old adage here, " Don't do as I do, do as I say!"
You know, 'Occupy' started off as a good thing, now you have every Tom,Dick,Jane and Harry out there. Honestly, they have lost prespective. Oh wait, I lost my prespective--yep, agree with the other comments. Blessings
ReplyDeletePreach it sister friend. Our schools recently mandated financial classes for all high schoolers. What they really needed is a rereading of the Constitution and understanding class.
ReplyDeleteNot living in a cave, just Canada!lol NO idea what this movement is about , and from what I have heard... not sure I would want to
ReplyDeleteYeah. Tony asked the same question... "Where are all these people going to the bathroom???"
ReplyDeleteAs always, the American public is pointing their finger in the wrong direction.
Ami, we could not let our banks collapse. That would have meant a financial disaster that would have affected the entire world. What was done wrong was that Wall Street was Bailed Out without impunity. They got an Out Of Jail Free card, on our dime. Still, not one banker has been held accountable.
ReplyDeleteAnd on the local level, people's homes are being foreclosed on, business are laying off workers, or closing up shop entirely, bankruptcies are up. It is not as simple as it once was, when you got a job, saved up and bought your car, your house, and had your 2.5 kids without a worry. The 99% should be concerned about this.
I think that's what Occupy Wall Street is all about.
