Sort of back among the living

I really prefer NOT to barf in a garbage bag in the car while most of my family is with me. With any luck, I won't have to do that again.

I threw up so hard it made my nose bleed.

And I was still sitting in the car after we got home Saturday afternoon (too sick and wobbly to get up and get into the house...) wiping away copious quantities of blood and vomit with one of my tie dyed t shirts, when the mail truck drove into the driveway.

I was also too sick to be coherent, and when the mailman asked, "Are you Susan?" all I could do was nod weakly. Eric came out of the back yard then and took the packages, and told me later the guy looked at him really funny. Then it occurred to him that possibly the mailman thought that Eric had popped me in the nose.

Ack.

I won't go into more detail about being as sick as I was. But no more croutons, no more salad dressing. At least not those particular brands!

I had eaten both before, but I'm guessing they've changed their formula. I know it's MSG, unfortunately, because of the fact that I saw the food I'd eaten 18 hours earlier come back up mostly intact, although a little softer. Eww.

I was unable to even think about ingesting anything until about 8 Sunday morning, even the small sips of water I took bounced.

And no more Percocet. As I write this, it's been 24 hours since I had any. I'm guessing the worst of the withdrawal is over. That's the good part.

The bad part is, my knee really, really hurts. I'm staying off it as much as I can, and doing my strengthening exercises sparingly. (As in, not doing them. Hurts. Too much.)

I'll call the doctor's office today (Monday) and get some Vicodin. Now I understand that's not mild medication, but much milder than the Percocet. I did a similar thing with the shoulder, and when it was time to stop taking the Vicodin, I did not suffer withdrawal symptoms. Regular Tylenol does NOTHING for me, and as much as the knee still hurts, (surprised at how much pain the Percocet was masking, actually) I am going to need something.

So it hasn't been a real fun weekend here. But I'm definitely feeling better, and will be dragging myself to the kitchen for a piece of toast here directly.

I'd wish you happy Sunday, since that's when I'm writing this, but you don't get to read it until Monday, so we'll go with 'have a good week.'

  2. I once drove from the upper part of Wisconsin all the way to Ohio with Ali barfing in plastic bags because of the flu. I told her it was like Little Red Riding Hood leaving breadcrumbs. Except of course it was puke. . .

  4. OMG Ami, how utterly appalling, I can only imagine how wretched you must feel. You sure have a fair amount on your plate right now, thank goodness you have a husband to help out! I'm sending warm, positive vibes your way, in hopes of a speedy recovery (and um, I'm sorry for laughing at the "popped on the nose" bit, I couldn't help it.. the image of the delivery man's face was too funny to ignore)!
