No matter how bad your job sucks...

It could always be worse.

Until recently, I thought that Liberty Tax (and how funny is that company name anyway. WTF do taxes have to do with liberty?) was a local company.

But in my web wanderings, I found lots of them in lots of places.
And apparently the owners think this is a good idea to
advertise their services:

Can you imagine doing this for a job?

The corner where the poor Liberty Tax guys stand has three people working the street. One Liberty Tax, one Subway and one from Little Caesar's Pizza (motto: toasted skin graft meat products make our pizzas pretty damn cheap!) I always feel sorry for the people out there, especially if it's raining. I think it's awful to make them stand out in the rain, really.

And I can't imagine that their presence will influence my purchasing decisions, unless it's a solemn vow NOT to buy the product due to the way they exploit their help.

And because this popped into my mind while I was writing this post, thinking about jobs I'd hate...

When you've had an absolute "I hate my job" day, try this:

On your way home from work, stop at your pharmacy and go to the thermometer section.

You will need to purchase a rectal thermometer made by Johnson and Johnson.

Be very sure you get this brand. When you get home, lock your doors, draw the drapes, and disconnect the phone so you will not be disturbed during your therapy.

Change to very comfortable clothing, such as a sweat suit and lie down on your bed. Open the package and remove the thermometer. Carefully place it on the bedside table so that it will not become chipped or broken.

Take out the material that comes with the thermometer and read it. You will notice that in small print there is a statement:

"Every rectal thermometer made by Johnson and Johnson is personally tested."

Now close your eyes and repeat out loud five times: "I am so glad I do not work for quality control at the Johnson and Johnson Company".

  1. OMG!!!! I had to come over and comment today.

That's freaking hilarious! I'll have to remind Mom #2 of how fortunate she is that she isn't the rectal thermometer tester, LOL.

    Happy Wednesday!!!

Around here the Little Caesars guys drag a kiddie pool by the road and fill it full of water and set holding the sign.At least they are not hot.

  4. The Liberty Tax people stand out there year-round even here in Florida! I feel so sorry for them!

  5. We found out through someone who worked on one of the street corners (but I can't remember which company they worked for) that it actually pays really well. They can only work 3 hour shifts, if I recall correctly, and around here they get paid $12 to $15 an hour. That's a lot better than minimum wage! Plus, they can listen to the radio, talk on the phone, even watch a portable tv, if they have it. Not many jobs where you have that much flexibility. I don't feel quite as sorry for them as I used to. :)

And I feel very sorry for those who personally test the thermometers. LOL

  9. Well it's not true. I mean, I'm sure the thermometers are tested, but that they use more sanitary means to do so.

It's just that the first time I saw that it made me laugh and I thought it belonged in this post.

    :)

  10. You are so funny. Yes, although the literal interpretation is not necessarily the accurate means, it is still a great analogy. I may have to mention that one to the pastor so he can put it in a sermon. Oh yes, he would tell a similar story; today he talked about sex.
