I'm off...

Now tell me. Is there anyone who read the title without going, "Well DUH!"

But what I really mean is, it's the start of a busy week.

I get to start with my PT appointment this morning. I'm leaving for that in about 20 minutes. I've been concerned enough this weekend over the feeling in the right shoulder and the comments from the PA on Thursday that I plan to ask Shawn to evaluate my range of motion and talk to me. Help set my mind at ease. I hope.

Update: Just got home from there. Shawn says that he doesn't see or feel anything unusual in my shoulder. That my recovery is not taking a long time or proceeding in an abnormal fashion. That it really is rare for someone to have to have the shoulder repaired a second time unless they do something bad to injure it again. Which I haven't. I don't think. And yeah, I will take his word for it. I trust him.

I work all five days this week at our Spring Break program.
Which is good, but there's certainly a part of me wishing for a day or two off. I'm not complaining, though. There are many people who work for the company who really want the hours and aren't getting any of them.

I need to take a quick trip out to the shed to pick up some items to bring along to help amuse kids. Imagine being a captive grade-schooler on Spring Break... and stuck in a school building. Wouldn't you want some things to put your hands on? I know I would.

I have a large container of fairy poop out there. Most people refer to it as packing peanuts, but don't you love the idea of calling it fairy poop? The fairy poop in question is made from corn starch. It melts in water. So one takes a little cup of water and a fingertip and can construct all sorts of interesting creatures and/or buildings from it.

The only drawback for today is that it's raining outside. So those creations won't be going home today.

I have been stockpiling it, but it's never been a convenient time to do the project at my school. Let's hope the kids have fun with it.

I also have a big bag of balls. These are the small, lightweight ones that you'd find in a ball pit at Chuck E. Cheese, except these ones are clean and as far as I know, have not been drooled on since I bought and disinfected/washed them.

They're fun for gym games. I can dump the whole bag out and have the kids pick them up and put into a container and see how fast they can do it, we can run a race where a kid runs up to the line and throws as many as they can into a basket in 10 seconds, I can divide them in half and put half on each side of the gym and give two teams 2 minutes to try to make the other side end up with more balls... well, we can invent all sorts of things to do with them.

Tomorrow is the day I'm heading out to my school in the morning to get the stuff for my program put away. Matt and Lyssa have said they'd go along with me to help, so I hope to get it done all in one swell foop. My stuff has been gone through more than once since I took over out there, and I've weeded out and gotten rid of all kinds of things. Tossed a bunch more crap when I hauled it all out just before the break, as a matter of fact.

I'm hoping that we can get things semi-organized and stowed in some kind of order so that I won't have to search for the small things I really need.

So okay. I have to go. Time to get the shoes and socks on and head out.

Have fun this week! Do you have your "normal" kids or different because of break?

  3. I've never thought of packing peanuts as fairy poop, but now that you said it I'll never think of it as anything else! :)

Hope this week goes smoothly for you!

  4. I have a couple kids who attend my regular program who will be there. There are three I had in my old program. Which reduces the enemy to 9 or so. (We're set to have between 14 and 17 all week.)

It's fun to get to know the kids I haven't met, but it's also a little difficult. Since I don't know them, I don't always pick up on the cues that they're going to: melt down, strike out, be bored, or be snotty to the other kids.

I also don't know their parents. So I have to ID a lot of people. Reactions vary. Most appreciate it, but some make no secret that they find it inconvenient to have to show me their driver's license.

Can you imagine dropping your kid off somewhere and the staff NOT asking for your ID?

    Sheesh.

Hope that, in spite of it being a busy week, it is a good one that runs smoothly! And that sunny days come your way. Sunshine makes everything more tolerable.
