Organization

When I started my new job this year, I barely had enough time to haul all my things out to the job site... forget pulling things out of the two large storage cabinets, going through them and dumping stuff I didn't need or won't ever use. So every time I brought something in, or needed space, there simply wasn't any. Things were starting to pile up a bit in front of the cabinets, and things were not looking the way I want them to look.

Friday there was no school/no kids. I asked the principal if she'd mind me bringing my son in to help me get stuff out of and off the top of those cabinets. It was fine with her, so that's what we did. Lyssa decided to tag along, so I had help from both kids.

Of course I was there on a volunteer basis, too. I knew that if I asked work, work would tell me no. So I did not ask.

Made it out there about noon yesterday. Pulled everything but our snacks out, sorted it, gave a bunch away to school staff and threw some things in the trash.

The plastic storage bins that will never be used again for the carts are gone, the myriad of craft supplies that won't get used or are too messy to use are gone, and there is a bit of space freed up for our stuff.

All the important stuff is accessible for my assistant, who uses a wheelchair, and crafty projects planned through Christmas and maybe a little beyond are ready to go.

Now I still have some stuff here at home that will need to go to work, but we made a huge amount of progress and I feel a lot better. It's been bothering me quite a bit to try and function with the mess.

And knowing that I'll probably be off work for awhile with surgery will be a bit easier because now my assistant will know where all our stuff is, too. And be able to reach the things she needs.

So that was my Friday. Housework somewhere besides home... where I could really use a bit of cleaning magic.

Today is grocery shopping and laundry day. Since it's Halloween, I suppose we'll pick up a bit of candy at the store.

True story... we had our wedding rehearsal and then a big party on Halloween night, 1980. None of us even figured out that it was Halloween until little kids started knocking on the door wanting candy. Carl, the best man, wanted to hand out beer. We had to put a stop to that. Can you imagine?

Finally, Cheryl and Margaret drove over to 7-11 and bought Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Trouble was, it was around 10 at night and there were no more trick or treaters.

And tomorrow is our wedding anniversary. We don't have specific plans, but had planned a trip to the coast later in the month. If the surgery gets scheduled before then, we'll have to postpone the trip.

  1. Sometimes, you just have to get organized. It is good that you were able to have a day to tackle that.

    Happy Anniversary to you!
