I went to the grocery store on my way home from work yesterday.
There was a man in the store wearing a t-shirt that shocked and offended me, which is really not all that easy to do.
The guy had a pentagram tattooed on his neck, was pierced all over the place, was wearing dreadlocks, and was pushing a stroller with a small little girl in it. He glowered at everyone, just daring anyone to look at him twice.
(Don't you love that? They do all kinds of things to attract attention, then get all pissy when you look or laugh.)
When I saw the shirt this guy was wearing, I was... horrified. I had to look several times to make sure I was really seeing it.
It was a black shirt with the picture and the commentary done in white.
On the front was a nun. She was conducting a solitary sexual activity. I hope that's clear enough.
On the back, in letters a good six inches high was 'Jesus is a ______.'
(four letter word ending in U-N-T. A word I won't even use I think it's so vulgar.)
I didn't ask him why he was wearing it. I didn't even look again. But the whole rest of my shopping trip was conducted in stunned disbelief.
There is no reason at all that I can think of to wear something like that in public other than to shock and disgust people. It worked. I was shocked and disgusted.
It was obviously a commercially produced shirt, so I came home and looked it up on the internet. It was put out by a British metal band, and has evidently been around for several years. First I've heard of it.
Hope it's the last.
What is wrong with people?
It really has to do with shocking people so then they can turn around and belittle you when you do take notice and look disgusted at them. It has everything to do with getting any kind of attention they can. A lot of people that do these things are a very angry bunch. Maybe they have had someone in their lives Bible thump them and so they think all Christians are like that and feel they have to put their hate out on everyone who thinks differently than they do. I just pray for these poor souls myself. Maybe one day they will see the error in their ways.
ReplyDeleteOh and I am not taking about them becoming Christians or anything but dealing with their anger and perceiving every Christian (or anyone else for that matter) the same. :)
I've been spending a lot of time lately on a website selling "offensive t-shirts." I look through them and laugh a lot, but some of them are just wrong. I've actually considered buying a few that I've seen, but I would never buy or wear clothing with profanity (well, maybe to the bar or something) or sexual activity (ever). There are kids (that guy you saw HAD one, wtf?) and old ladies around. Mostly the stuff I've been looking at are only "offensive" because they're about religion or politics. "God is awesome! It's his followers I have a problem with." Making a lighthearted statement is one thing (it is a t-shirt after all), but I don't understand the desire to be deliberately as offensive as possible. Geez that guy! What a @#$%!!
ReplyDeleteYou have to feel for the future of the little girl in the stroller.
ReplyDeleteOMGees! I respect other people and their beliefs, but that IMO just took the cake!
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have never even heard of such filth. I mean, like you said, I'm not prudish or anything but that sends my moral compass in circles. I'd be afraid to wear that for fear of getting struck down and fried like bacon.
I probably would have just stared with my mouth wide open. I used to be pretty cool, but since I got with Mom #2, who's Hispanic, now I wear my emotions right out loud on my sleeve where everyone can see them.
(Yes, I do know that was just a blatant stereotype, but I haven't met one yet that doesn't cry or scream at the drop of a dime...and I LOVE them that way);-)
That is disgusting. It is one thing for him to think what he does and talk that way to his friends, but in public, the profanity alone is despicable let alone the bashing involved. I feel for that child; she has no hope with the anger and probably aggression in that home.
