So we did something out of character last night...

Remember the car accident Eric was in a few weeks ago?

Well, this week, he was in Gresham to get a repair estimate on his truck. While he waited, he picked up a copy of the Gresham Outlook and saw, in the features section, a little article about
The Wiyos . They're a group based in New York, but they travel all over. They sing and play old time music. The music I did with the Rancho Music Association in Southern California as well as the stuff I listened to growing up is eclectic for sure, but Eric knows the sound of songs from that era really makes me smile.

So these guys
were appearing at McMenamin's Edgefield, which is about 5 minutes from my house. Eric called me and said he was taking me and Lyssa to something on Thursday night and that I may have to miss my water aerobics class.

Well, it's really unusual for him to do anything like that, so what was I going to say?

He drove us out to Edgefield and we got to listen to half a really fun concert.

Why half, you ask?

Well, it was the venue. If you were to sit in the parking lot at Edgefield, and listen to the cars drive in, you'd hear the unusual yet strangely predictable sound of the engines of their special little cars. (yuppity yuppity yuppity).

We walked up the hill from the lower parking lot, enjoying the lovely flowers and plants, but not really liking the smell of the place. We learned from the brochure we'd picked up that the kitchens were proud to compost the food and other organic waste products. They do this in the middle of the compound in long, neat, stinky mounds. I know it's compost, but it smells quite a bit like, well, shit.

We made our way to Blackberry Hall.
Assorted interesting people were there. They wandered in from the grounds carrying their cute little glasses of wine and ale. (Don't call it beer, you uncultured swine!!)Wandered in. Wandered out. Some wandered in and stayed awhile to listen. Others wandered in and sat down and had loud conversations. Many of the males (wool sweatyhead spoiled americansis) were wearing misshapen sweaters and strange knitted hats. Many females (hodgepodge loudmouth twitticus) were in unusual mismatched sweaters/sweatshirts with skirts and leggings. They completed their ensembles with Birkies or Crocs.
Some wandered in, stood listening, and then made their way to the front, near the band, to listen. But it didn't stop most of them from talking.

There were older people there, too. The white haired couple sitting directly in front of us for a time seemed to be enjoying themselves. She had bathed in perfume before making her entrance. I can even identify the fragrance for you. Eau de Urinal Cake.

Now I understand that in that type of concert performance, people don't sit and politely listen to the music as a courtesy to the performers.

What I don't get though, is why not?!! If you want to sit and have a loud conversation, why don't you go somewhere else so that people CAN listen to the music?

And these guys were really good. The lead singer had the perfect old-time radio voice, and sang wonderfully. The harmonies were close and perfect. Every instrument fit in and sounded great. They're some sincerely talented guys. I would have loved to listen longer, but my aggravation at all the noise and the inconsiderate 'audience' sort of spoiled it for me.

I'm glad I went, and appreciate my hubby for thinking of me when he saw the article.

But I don't know that I'll go to Edgefield again.

Check in tonight around 10 E time for your Say Something Saturday assignment. Be there or be somewhere else.

I love your Latin names. Some people are so rude. I can't understand why they would go somewhere to talk where they have to raise their voice to talk and ruin it for everyone else.

  3. I only wear burkis and crocs and the knock-off counterparts of both, but I do try to be polite so can you forgive me my footwear-it is the most comfortable footwear ever. My only wish is that it were prettier.
