Well that's the pits.

John (aged 8) was really excited on Friday last week because he was going to spend the weekend with his cousin Dave, who's also an eight year old boy.

He came back to school on Monday with a new skill.
His cousin taught him how to armpit fart!
(I know, I know... WOW!!!)

He exploded into our program space on Monday and said loudly to no one in particular, "Hey!! Look!!"

Then he stuck a hand in his armpit and made a loud farting noise with it.

Some of the kids who were already there were instantly trying to do it, too.

I asked them not to, explaining that, "Our armpits aren't exactly clean, and we don't need to be spreading that all over the room. John, please don't do that anymore. The rest of you? Same. Please don't do it here."

It wasn't more than a minute before he was doing it again, trying to be inconspicuous in the construction zone.

Armpit farts are NOT inconspicuous.

So I said, "John. I've asked you not to do that here. Could you please stop?"

In answer, he pulled his right hand out of his left armpit and deeply sniffed his fingers.

"OH EM GEEEEE you guys!! It smells like B.O.!!!!"

I swear to you, at least six other kids (and not all of them boys, either) RAN for the carpet.

"I wanna smell!! I wanna smell!!"

"JOHN! Go wash your hands please."

He got a bit of a swagger as he headed for the sink.

I followed him and caught up.

"Buddy, I know it's funny to you. That's fine. It's not a bad thing to do. It's just not something I want you doing here. Spreading sweat all over our toys and our tables isn't as clean as I'd like it to be. So save the armpit farting for when you're hanging out with your cousins, okay?"

He said he would.

So far he has said that four other times. Those are just the times I've caught him.

Sheesh.

Kids.

Not John. But similar. Haha.

    1. Oh yeah, it's gonna be a permanent fixture, I'm afraid. Art projects, blocks, magnatiles and armpit farts. Everyone wants their kid in a program like that!!

    1. If I had to be honest (and mostly I do) stuff like that makes me laugh, too. Kids are great at finding the ridiculous/gross/inappropriate.

  3. Smelling each other's B.O. is definitely a Kid Thing... LMAO. Boys and Gross Stuff just seem a Natural Attraction.

    1. I don't know how to tell you this... but it's ALL children. Or most of them. They're a bunch of butt diggin' booger pickin' sneezing coughing and farting little monsters. I love them all, but it's true. That was the thing I was the most unprepared for when I started this job. Sometimes I still wanna barf.

  5. Ah, yes...it's like being asked how much time is left in class and responding with, "Maybe 6 or 7 minutes?" And then the 6/7 madness begins, haha.

    1. Oh yeah, the six seven thing. It's interesting to me how something like that both gets started and spreads. How??
