Anyone else bothered by the plain line that's used as a capital I in some fonts?
For example, in Arial, the letter looks like this: I
Maybe I just need to make different font choices.
Oh look, I started with a digression.
Here's another one... I have a post I've been working on. It's long. Will probably be boring to some of you. But when I read back over my blog I'm really glad I took the time to write the mundane stuff.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So if you use AI, you're contributing to all kinds of damage.
I wasn't aware of this. I think a lot of people aren't aware, but maybe we should be.
I have seen more than one source that says something like, "I left FB and deleted my account only to find that AI was now 'me' and posting all kinds of stuff."
So I haven't deleted my account, although mostly the only thing I've used it for in the last six months or more is to message with my mom.
I have appreciated the Buy Nothing group that I'm a part of, and would be sorry to lose that, and I am happy to have re-established contact with the few people from my past who mattered to me.
There's a big FB center outside Prineville, where one of my brothers lives. I wonder if they're having issues, too. Prineville is a desert climate where a lot of farming happens, so it seems that water would be an important thing.
Anyway. The video isn't very long. It's worth watching. And passing on.
I too find that font problematic...it's especially confusing for kids.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this video. Informative. Capitalism rarely thinks twice about consequences. Sigh.
Apparently there are no consequences for any of those assholes.
DeleteI also avoid fonts where the capital I is hard to distinguish from the lower-case L. They're irritating and sometimes confusing.
ReplyDeleteThe arrogance of the companies that run those data centers is outrageous. My first thought was that they should be forced to buy out all those affected home-owners so they can move. My second thought was that they should be forced to demolish the data center and rebuild it in an uninhabited area. Neither will happen.
This particular problem isn't an issue with capitalism, though; it's about the arrogance of unaccountable power, which takes different forms in different systems. Some of the worst environmental devastation in the world happened in the USSR, where it was the government that could never be held accountable.
Guess we're not doing much about holding people accountable here, either. ::sigh::
DeleteYes, they should have had to pay for the home owners to relocate. Of course these big companies have unlimited money, they can afford to go to court a million times and nitpick arguments until the people who worked their whole lives to own a home just... give up. Too bad we can't design a plague that only infects rich and arrogant assholes, huh?
