Adam Update

He's back.
Doing fine.
Can't leave his sling on, "It bothers my neck!"
He won't stop picking at the cotton batting that's meant to keep the cast from bothering his hand.

I had thought he broke his arm jumping from the low platform, but learned on Monday that he simply missed his grip while trying to cross the monkey bars.

"I jumped up to grab the bar and I just missed it," he said to John, as they were going to wash their hands. "Then I fell on my arm and broke it."

So I feel a little better, knowing it wasn't rule breaking that got him injured.

I was talking to a manager yesterday. A thing that has to happen when there's an on-site injury is that we get a visit from the state licensing division. They inspect the area where the injury occurred and get a verbal report from all the adults who were there when it happened.

I was updating him about the visit and told him that I felt bad that I wasn't able to help Adam. That Adam had strongly told me not to touch him.

I also let him know that the incident hadn't happened due to any kind of rule breaking.
But that I still felt bad.

He said, "So even if you had been standing right there, what could you have done? You couldn't catch him, right?"

Which I hadn't thought of. And no, I would not have been able to catch him. The kid weighs around 60 lbs and even when I was young and strong I doubt I'd have been able to grab him as he flew by.

The licensing person was nice. I hadn't met her yet, my school is new on her list, the licensing guy we had ended up with too many facilities on his case load so some went to the new person.

So that's your update.
Things to do, places to go, people to see.
Hope your day is a good one.

  1. That has to make you feel better. Kids being kids do get hurt, no matter how watchful we are.

    1. I *do* feel better. And I know they get hurt, but I hate seeing it happen to them. Adam will be okay, I know.

    1. I swear I'd like to wrap them in bubble wrap. Adam is pretty proud of the cast, though. LOL
