Once again, they're funny...

It's funny to listen to conversations between the young humans.

This evening there was a cultural event (Hispanic Heritage celebration) at our school, meaning our program had to relocate since they were going to use the cafeteria for the dinner and party.

So we were in the library for most of the afternoon. Not always fun for active kids to be in a smaller space, but Fridays have fewer kids attending, so that helps. We also went outside early and stayed out for over an hour.

We were working on a little craft project and the kids were chatting as they colored and cut out little Halloween creatures.

There's a broad representation of racial heritage in our group.

I have siblings, two little girls, who are Hispanic.

Ariana is in the second grade, Sophia is a Kindergartner.

All the kids were talking about the event in the cafeteria. Maicee said, "What does that mean, 'hispanic'?"

Ariana said to everyone, "It means Mexicans. My family is from Mexico." She turned to her little sister and said, "You're Mexican, too."

Sophia looked at her, then giggled. "No I'm not! I'm a Kindergarten!"

::snort:::

Also, October 10th is an anniversary of sorts. It was 19 years ago that I was hired to be a site assistant in an after school program. I took the job because  I figured it was babysitting and that I could tolerate it for 10 hours a week or so. I did not expect to love it. I'm still surprised at how much I love my work.
