If I ever feel discouraged about how I'm managing my job, I'll have to look this post up.

Not a bad day at all.

Met with my manager via Zoom Wednesday morning.
I had emailed him my list of concerns and my reasons for thinking my current spot may not be the best placement for me.

I know I must have mentioned at least once that I love being able to attend meetings that way... get up, shower, dry my hair and put on clean pajamas. Sit in front of the computer for a bit.

I was told that there aren't very many people who would be offered a brand new site, but that with my years of experience and how I've done my job so far, I am one of the few who would receive that offer.

So I expect to be at a new site in the fall.
I feel good about being listened to.

It was also the day to check in with the principal and vice principal in my school for the end-of-year meeting. They both had incredibly positive things to say to my manager. In front of me. :)

They talked about the way the program was going before my arrival and how much it's changed since then. The energy level and the noise factor and how the custodians have nothing but good things to say about how we're keeping things clean.

So important to get those people on your side from the beginning, they can be your worst enemy for sure.

One of the principals said that until I arrived, they'd never even had a site director come and introduce themselves.

Which I find appalling, but not particularly surprising. It's a good organization, but any organization is only as strong as its weakest link and for every child care person who's experienced/professional there are four who aren't much of either and they walk among us.

Last, I found my current job via Indeed.
Apparently my resume is still up (I am not sure how to remove it, didn't even know I would need to, actually)



And someone from Champions reached out to me via email yesterday.

The subject line was a little creepy, actually.
'I just came across your profile and I like what I see'.

I was actually hesitant to open the email because I didn't recognize the email address, some unrecognizable conglomeration of letters and numbers.

He was interested in interviewing me for some position in the local school district. Now that's funny.

I was going to just ignore the email, but then I figured I'd answer it with at least a little snark. I doubt I'll hear back, but it was strangely satisfying to respond.

Thanks for reaching out.

I worked for Champions for 12 years. Left in 2016.

I did an amazing job. My site was the one managers brought corporate people to.

Unannounced. 
Because they knew there was always something great going on.

I put heart and soul into my work and actually sacrificed partial use of one of my limbs for Champions, although that was NOT on purpose.

Well, the heart and soul part was deliberate, the death of my left knee wasn't.

I now have a permanent disability.

I also reported unsafe behaviors and verbal and emotional abuse of children by one of the site directors in the (local) district. This crazy person actually went into restrooms with children and peed with them. Screamed at little people. Swore at the custodian in her school. Asked co-workers for narcotics.

So very professional.

Unfortunately, she was good friends with the area manager and nothing was done other than straight up retaliation against the long-term, dedicated employees who reported her actions.

Who doesn't love a little favoritism?

Certainly more important to silence us and retaliate than to protect five year olds who were left crying on the floor and stepped over by the adult in charge, huh?

Interesting to note that 12 of 15 long term employees left during that time.
Quite a few of us had been there more than 10 years.

Ancient history.

It's all good, though.
I'm well-paid and respected by my current employer and I still get to make a difference in the lives of children.  My heart and soul are more or less intact, even if my knee isn't.

But if I wanted to return to Champions, I couldn't.

In return for my 12 years of stellar service and dedication to the kids and company, I am not eligible for rehire.
