Anticlimactic

Very happy to report that I didn't even have to get out of the car at Pipsqueak Auto, Inc (misogyny always included, no extra charge) this morning.

I drove up to the doors at Pipsqueak, Eric got out, and I drove the rental back to Enterprise.

That was a simple process, they looked at the car to make sure I hadn't hit anything and checked the gas gauge to make sure I wasn't trying to sneak away without filling up and that was that.

Happy to have my little go-buggy back. I'll be able to turn the heater up or down without having to think about it (or be forced to leave it on high until I can get off the freeway to look at all the damn buttons on the dash and turn it down), I know where to reach to grab my tissue box without having to look, I can once again listen to some music!!

I listen to music on CD in my little car. Yes, I know more modern technology is available, and that's nice, but I like it that way. I don't like listening to the radio, even when it's mostly good music on a station, because I hate radio ads.

In the rental, the only choice I had was the radio unless I wanted to sign up for some streaming service that I wouldn't be using more than a few days. Not worth the time investment.

Everything about radio ads drives me bugshit. The strident voices, the tinny music behind the voices and usually the ad itself. I don't fucking CARE if I 'have a friend in the diamond business' and when I want something I go figure out which one I want and I buy it. The only influence ads have is for me to go somewhere else besides the advertiser.

Also, I turned the radio on because I wanted to hear some music. I did not turn it on so someone could blast my ears, dammit.

I'm not an old man, but this sounds a lot like 'get off my lawn' doesn't it?
LOL

So anyway.

I stood inside the Enterprise office for a few minutes while the young and handsome go-getter guy went out to look at the car I was returning.

I find it interesting from a cultural standpoint that a very large percentage of the people in the rental car business all seem to be made from the same mold.
Oh, there are hair color variations, some of them are a little taller than others, but they seem interchangeable.
All of them are young, enthusiastic, earnest, 20-or 30-something boys.
I have seen zero women behind those counters.
Not sure if they just don't hire them or if, like me, they aren't interested in that line of work. I know I'd hate working there, but it's not cars I hate. It's the idea of dealing with the general public that makes me cringe.

Throughout the process of dealing with this fairly minor accident, the rental people have also been the most professional people I have encountered. There was the bullshit of wanting to tack on a big return fee unless I drove 20 miles to return the original rental, but they did end up waiving that fee after I made six phone calls.

I'll make sure to note that in the review that'll show up in my email.

So Eric said Pip was very polite and didn't act like a dick to him at all. Big surprise there, huh? He assured Eric that he would have driven the car for two months with his family in it. He told him more than once how small the bend in the axle was. Tried once again to emphasize how he said it was going to be two months to fix and proudly said something like, "And look! It was only two months, just like I said!"

Fucking evil little gargoyle. I wonder what his attitude would have been like had I chosen to accompany my husband into the building. I'll never know, but I'm okay with that.

Writing the review of my experience with that business will be entertaining.

The car looks great. You can't tell anything happened to it. They also washed it and detailed the interior. It looks very nice. I'd rather have had a dirty car than a condescending pipsqueak, though.

    1. Eric is taking the car to a shop tomorrow to make sure it's right, but he says he's pretty sure it probably is. He didn't like the foul and evil tempered troll either. I will post it here when I get the survey. Might be temporarily amusing.

I'm glad you have your car back. And sorry you had to go through all that.

I have rented a number of cars over the last number of years and I have had a different experience. I think at least half of the people who have helped me at rental car places were women. The last one had the most amazing braids!

    1. I have only dealt with one girl-type person, and she's the one who said, "Oh good heavens, how stupid! I would be happy to waive the destination fee!" No idea what her hair looked like, though, as it was a phone call.

It was such a minor accident that I can't believe how much pain in the ass was involved. Geez.

  3. glad you got your car back with out having to do bodily harm to a pipsqueak. Enterprise always reminded me of Stepford wives. I had a cousin who worked there. They had to all wear the same thing. (white shirt and tie) They all were told how to speak etc. It was freakin' weird to me. But they were always great to work with.

    1. I think they've relaxed the dress code a bit, not all of them dress the same, but it's still business casual. You won't see them in a tie dyed shirt and jeans, which is my usual work uniform. They were excellent to work with except for that stupid destination fee, but after that issue, nothing bothersome. Prompt and friendly and outgoing and competent. Lots of other businesses would do well to copy that. Pipsqueak Auto, for example.

    1. Me too!! It's 10 years old and nondescript and nothing special. But it's paid for, it's economical, it has a CD player and for now anyway, it's all sparkly clean. :)

  5. I hate dealing with idiots that think I have no idea what I'm doing. Dealerships make me crazy. A lot of things make me crazy lately though. Loud music included. And I'm not that old. And I hear ya on the advertisers. I feel that way about political mail. If you can't figure out how to make a mailer that is easy to deliver, I have zero faith you can govern. No stars for you sir! Or lady. I'm an equal opportunity political hater.

    1. I keep thinking I'm not that old, but you know, today marks 62 years for me, so not that young, either. I don't mind the music loud if I'm not trying to have a conversation with someone or focus on anything in particular. But I don't listen to music much at home, I prefer conversation with the fam... and if I'm listening to music and they talk to me, I turn the music off because otherwise I get frustrated. Get off my lawn!!
ANY political mail pisses me off. Most of the time it's MY DAMN money being spent to send out all those stupid campaign flyers. I'm an equal opportunity political hater, too. Most of them aren't worth a shit, no matter which party.

  6. When dealing with fucking evil little gargoyles you have to expect imbeciles or less. Oh please post a copy of the review you write here on your blog. By the way, I wrote a lengthy response to the comment you wrote on my blog about worrying. I appreciate what you had to say and know how many people struggle with anxiety.

    1. Eric says that guys who are in that line of work are usually dirtbags. He didn't like the guy either, but of course even a nasty little creature like Pip knows when to behave himself.

I don't struggle with anxiety as much as I used to, I think partly because I got old and my hormones aren't so crazy these days. My oldest kid has a lot of anxiety, he worries all the time. Youngest, not as much, but hey, we all have issues, right? :)
