I have a ton of stuff to write about. And at the end of the day, I sit in front of a blank page and consider writing something and then I just... don't.
I'm finally finished moving my program to a different classroom in the school. To say it's been a horrendous pain in the ass is a huge understatement, and I'm exhausted in a way I don't really like.
Bob was here until the 31st. Took him to the airport about 11 AM, then came home, ate something and zipped across town to my school. He texted me to let me know he'd arrived back in Looseyanna safely, but I forgot to tell Lyssa.
The next morning, in that smart assy way she has (I don't know where she gets it) she said, "Oh, I guess Grandpa's plane crashed?"
Geez.
I've had an opportunity to get to know 'my' kids better since I last posted. I'll be writing about them over the next couple weeks so you can get to know them a bit, too.
They're all great kids. I think children are generally pretty great anyway, but I really do like my bunch this year, as I always do. There's a mixed bag of stuff with initials, ADHD, ASD, OCD. The littles don't seem to understand the concept of cleaning up one area before they move on, but they're starting to catch on. It's frustrating, but it's also hilarious.
I have three kinders, five 1st graders, two second graders, two third graders, four fourth graders and two fifth graders. It's a bit cozy in our shared classroom space with 18 kids and two adults, but we're gradually getting things figured out so there's room for them to do various activities.
As always, arts and crafts are huge. They love making things. We go through a ton of paper, markers, pencils, glue sticks and paint.
I have finally figured out where 99% of our stuff is stashed and can usually provide them with whatever supplies they're looking for. We're limited in floor space, so we have to carefully plan what we get out. LEGO, all the doll houses and bins of furniture, our giant book cart, the rolling shelves of games and art supplies. It's hectic, and still feels new.
Except for 2018, I have moved my program every single year. I don't even want to go over that list again, but I hate moving. I'd rather go through labor.
Back in the days when I worked for the medical supply/rehab stuff company, we moved across town into a new location. It was incredibly stressful and crazy and I swore that if a company I was working for ever moved again, I'd quit.
Guess I didn't mean it.
Really what happened is that I found work I love and don't want to leave. But I'm fed up with the moving and moving and moving.
There were two K classes at the beginning of this school year. Each class had THIRTY five year olds. Thirty. No way in hell could I handle that... you couldn't pay me enough. They hired a new teacher and now there are three classes of five year olds. That's the reason I wasn't able to move to an empty classroom. The empty classroom is full of kids now.
:::sigh:::
I hope without a good reason to do so that I will eventually have my own space again. Can't hold program in the cafeteria or the gym, though. Why? Unfortunately, SUN school is a big presence in our school. They're just as unprofessional as ever, too.
I would not put my kid in any of the classes I've seen so far this year. They're not required to be licensed, so they hire just about any schmuck off the street who thinks they want to work with kids. Don't know why they'd call it working with kids since mostly what they do is let them run around the halls making noise and getting into trouble. Usually unsupervised, but on occasion standing right next to the shenanigans and ignoring it.
:::sigh::: again.
It's late late. I'm tired. But I'm still around. I want to get back in the habit of writing. Let's see if that wish is strong enough to work.
Did you miss me?
YES! you've been missed. You're amping up your writing, I'm going the opposite direction 🙃
ReplyDeleteI have so much I want to say. Some political shit, but it's just almost not worth bothering, dumb shits gonna dumb shit, amiright? Aggravation about personal stuff that I can't put here.
DeleteSo I'm going to write about my kids and work.
How are the eyeballs?
I've been in a Blog slump myself, lots to write about but no real drive to get to it. Glad you got another great bunch of Kiddos, I agree, most Kiddos are great, it's their Adults that sometimes aren't.
ReplyDeleteThere's only one parent this year that, um, isn't my favorite. He's not a bad guy, just sort of arrogant and dismissive. And in my opinion, he's a little tough on his kids.
DeleteSeems like a good time of year to take a little break from writing, everything is so busy right now.
What a pain. Glad the moving is over though! Since you have a dedicated space at least you don't have to put everything into a locked closet at the end of the day ~ right?
ReplyDeleteI wonder why there's such an increase in 5 year olds? Did a lot of people move to your area during Covid?
Don't have to lock it all in a closet, but it does have to go to one corner of the room along a back wall. Our stuff comes out in the afternoon and gets put away before we go home. It's less a pain in the ass than it could be due to my ordering carefully for my program. Everything is on rolling shelf units and in little cubbies. I haven't finished organizing yet, but we're getting there. Not sure why we have so many K age kids in the school. I hope we end up in an empty classroom again sometime...
Delete"The littles don't seem to understand the concept of cleaning up one area before they move on"
ReplyDeleteI'm supposed to do that? Who knew!
You should have figured it out by now! You need a bossy day care provider to tell you to get it together. ;)
DeleteI wish the kids wouldn't scatter everything we have every day... but I am glad I have so many options for them. So many ways for them to entertain themselves.
