Holy whap, Batman!

So about 12 hours post-injection (a little before midnight) it hit me.

Fever, aches, a general holy cow I feel like crap thing. I got up to pee and had to hold on to furniture and the wall because I felt more than a little wobbly.

I was sick until 10 AM, then still deeply tired. Ended up staying in bed until after noon.

But then I got up and ate some leftover spaghetti, stood under hot water in the shower for about 10 minutes and got dressed, did my hair, wrote the grocery list and went out for the weekly shopping expedition with the man.

I am not feeling 100% yet, but much better.

I'm sure that once I get past the general blahs, I'll be even better because it means I have at least some immunity to the virus and can hopefully go back to work, if not immediately then when school opens again in the fall.

Ran into one of 'my' parents at the grocery store this afternoon, too.
Esme's mom.

I told her to tell Esme how much I miss her. She said Esme is having a hard time being out of school so long, that she misses her teachers and life as she knew it. This is her first year in middle school, but of course it's all been virtual. She's very social, although confused by most regular social interactions. As mean and snotty and bitchy as some middle school girls can be, I feel like it's not necessarily a bad thing that Esme isn't in school right now.

So Esme texted me this evening, asked me what I've been up to and what I have been creating lately. I texted her some pictures of a few of my acrylic paintings, now she wants to try it. I wish I could set her up with supplies and hang out, helping her with it.

I know I've already said it, but it really is easy. The step by step instructions provided at no charge are wonderful and I've had fun learning a new skill.

My art will never make me famous, but I'm not doing it for that purpose, I'm just having fun.

I hope that going through the vaccination process/illness means I will be able to teach some kids to paint sometime soon.

:::sigh:::

  1. We get our second shots next Thursday. I'm planning on not getting a reaction. It doesn't sound like it's any fun. I'll let you know how it goes. :)

    1. I felt like utter crap... but it was the middle of the night, I was able to sleep it off and I'm really doing fine now. Although I thought it was weird that my BP was way down this afternoon, 114/73. No meds.

If 12 hours of feeling shitty means I'm not going to die from the goddamn virus, I'll take it. Best of luck with your shots, though. :)

Ami, do you think moral relativism makes a total nonsense of morality itself as an actual concept ?.

    1. Since there are literally millions of versions of morals and morality, I don't think anyone can decide that for anyone but themselves.

Morality is often confused with religion, when they're nothing the same. Except for my moral code and my religion are identical... try not to be an asshole.

But Ami, what i`m specifically trying to say here is that behaviour that supposedly represents and constitiutes 'being an asshole' seems to change from generation to generation. For instance, things that we regard as offensive or unacceptable or morally objectionable now obviously wont be for people 40 or 50 years from now, and they`ll be looking back and laughing about the fact that those things weren`t allowed or available in our society. I think you`ll agree that there seems to be something intrinsically ludicrous and bizarre and sinister about the fact that each subsequent generation has to waste its time being a laughing stock for the next generation specifically because of moral relativism and the way that all the rules seem to have a tendency to go out the window at the drop of a hat and everybody always ends up wondering what all the fuss was about with regards to why those things or behaviours were ever allowed to be demonised and forbidden in the past to the levels that they were as all the laws disappear and that brave new world emerges ! ! !. Thats the specific point i wanted your opinion on, cheers.

  3. I haven't taken any of the shots and have no plans to get them. Infact, I haven't had a flu shot in years, and haven't had the flu. I do spend time, effort, and money strengthening my immune system. I've been postponing a needed medical procedure that will require an overnight stay in the hospital. They may turn me away.

    1. I won't get the flu shot either.
This is different. It's not a hoax and people are dying. I will die someday, I just would prefer not to die alone in a covid ward.

I'm thinking that perhaps July or August you should be able to get your procedure... can you keep yourself going until then?

    2. Probably. My sister says if I get tested three days prior and the test is negative, I should be ok.

    1. Waaaay better this morning. Arm is hardly sore at all and I'm not wiped out the way I was. No aches and pains other than the standard 'I'm 60 years old and of course things hurt on occasion' stuff.

  5. Sorry the shot made you feel so bad. I told my doctor that I want it when she gets some doses.

  8. I am glad you were able to get the shot. My parents are still trying to get an appointment. Massachusetts has seriously done the WORST roll out of all the states. Not sure who is advising Baker right now, but it is pathetic and inadequate.

    1. My parents had their second dose yesterday. Mom was in the kitchen last night and suddenly became very dizzy and passed out. Scared the hell out of my dad, he doesn't get around so well and it took him awhile to get to her. They called some neighbors to help her get up from the floor. She said as far as she can tell the only damage was to her dignity.

    2. That is crazy scary! Glad she's okay. Dignity is easily healed in this case. As for my parents, another week has passed, still no available appointments. :(

    3. Update: Pulled some strings, Mum and Dad got their first shot yesterday. No issues. Fingers crossed.

    1. Well, except for the thrush... which I understand can happen after the vaccine. Hasn't been fun, but I am definitely recovering.
