Normal.
As normal as I get, anyway.
My BP has been normal and fine and dandy since my last post.
I got an email from the person who's the head of 'quality assurance' at Providence.
She told me they were conducting their investigation and gave me a date, as in, "I will contact you by this date."
We'll see.
In closing, she said, " I would very much appreciate you letting me know what you would like to see as resolution."
I refrained from smarting off or being mean.
She's just doing her job.
I sent this to her...
This
did not start in the ER, it started when my doctor failed to listen to
me and prescribed blood pressure medication that I did not need. I had
misgivings. I asked her if stopping the heartburn medication might help.
She dismissed me.
When the medication made things worse, she prescribed another and another and another. I did see her just before the flurry of prescriptions, but not after or during this craziness.

NO ONE HAS CALLED TO CHECK ON ME.
In three weeks.
In three weeks.
No one cared enough to see if I was okay.
If I weren't smart about paying attention to how I feel, I would have kept taking the stuff that was causing me harm.

When I called my regular clinic for help after the first ER visit, they were dismissive, too.
"Well, the ER said your blood pressure was stable."
"And you consider 155/88 an acceptable reading?"
"Please hold."
I've been through an utterly horrendous experience over the last month or so and no one has been willing to help me.
So I've handled it myself.
I stopped taking the heartburn medication AND all the blood pressure pills.
My blood pressure has been in a normal range since then.
Gee, it's almost like those heartburn drugs that I'm no longer taking had something to do with the high blood pressure.
Why didn't I think of that?
Oh yeah. Guess I did.

I've
written about what happened during my rounds of office visits if you
know someone I should send it to.
Or is that your department, too?
Makes me weary to contemplate.

If
I weren't required to use Providence because of my insurance, I would
be shopping for a new provider. All of the things that have happened
are just inexcusable.
A quote from your last email... "
I would very much appreciate you letting me know what you would like to see as resolution. "
If you were in my position, what would you like to see happen?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am waiting to see what conclusions are reached from their investigation. I'm also waiting to see what my ER bills look like. I have no problem arguing about the charges and unnecessary padding of the bill, but that's a separate issue. I am angry still, and don't plan to let it go.
Situations change when people fight for changes IMO. You will, by proxy, be fighting for all those to timid to fight for themselves. Good on you, and good luck to you.
ReplyDeleteThere's an actual mathematical formula in business. An equation that accounts for the percentage of people who will put up with _____ and say nothing vs those who will speak up. The fact that many business continue shady and questionable practices tells you how few people will actually stand up.
DeleteAnd thank you. We'll see if it does any good at all.
Personally, I'm doubtful. But I have to try.
I should have said several formulas. I can't remember where I read it, but it was a fascinating article. lol
DeleteER's are notorious for padding the bill. Hell, some of the doctors visits that were covered by ken's insurance had things on there that never took place. I always report them to the insurance company. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteI'll be demanding an itemized bill. To further complicate things, I filled out the forms to elect to continue the coverage at my expense since my employer is no longer doing so. Coverage took effect July 1, but paperwork didn't go through before the double ER visits. Things will eventually be straightened out, but I'll be all stressed and angry until then,
DeleteI am so sorry. I have been in this situation before, including being prescribed meds I was allergic to, only to be told to keep taking them. WTF? Sadly, the only way to get proper care now is to self advocate, and in most cases, become more educated than the doctor treating you. (((HUGS)))
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many people die from shit like this? If I'd kept taking the crap my doctor prescribed, I don't know if I'd be around right now. Not an exaggeration, I have never felt so awful. Of course all that shit messes with your heart, too. Lots of anger and not many answers.
DeleteI agree with Jull. You have to either self advocate or have someone do it for you. If not for my Mom's caregiver, she would be in worse shape. There are many reasons I'm not his biggest fan, but I am grateful that he was there to intervene.
ReplyDeleteAll of us should ask for itemized bills when we are in the hospital ~ I've heard stories about the crazy things found on those statements.
It makes me angry that no one gives a shit. Isn't that supposed to be their job? You know taking care of people? If they're not doing that, I guess they're in the wrong line of work.
DeleteI'm hoping to find errors on my bill. Just one more thing I can yell about. I'm not a happy camper, as they say.
Now I'm trying to wait for everything to settle down. Get all the drugs out of my system before I allow them to do any more tests.
