I've been trying to ditch a headache for almost a week now.
Had it for three days on the left. Took a partial day off on Friday. Then it migrated to the right. I woke up at least four times a night to take medication. Excedrin. Migraine medicine. Heartburn pills. UGHHH.
So this morning I woke up with the headache on the right and it was so bad I wanted to puke.
It had been seven hours since I took anything, so I threw everything I had at it.
Two Excedrin, half a migraine pill and a vicodin. Then a heartburn pill because taking all that shit at once was definitely going to give me heartburn. Geez. Washed it down with a small glass of chocolate milk. Need that sugar boost to go along with it.
But you know what? It worked. I took all that shit about 7:15 and by 8:00 I didn't have the headache anymore. I got up and took a shower. Felt so much better. But about 4:00 I had to take another half a migraine pill.
I can hear the more astute among you asking 'why only half a migraine pill'? Well let me tell you!
That shit is nasty.
Side effects are no fun.
Hot and cold and hot and cold.
Sweaty and quivery.
Lightheaded, although not dizzy or buzzed at all.
I have learned that a half pill will kick the headache, at least for six/eight hours without the nasty side effects. Or the occasional side effects aren't quite as bad. Also, if I take a whole one and it wears off in six hours or so, I can't take another until 12 hours have passed. And waiting 12 hours is just agony. Migraines aren't fun. If you haven't had one, I recommend that you do not.
I've been sitting in the momcave with Lyssa quite a lot doing crafty stuff. She's always been incredibly creative. There are tons of bits and pieces. Little wooden disks and sticks and little hearts and beads and all kinds of just stuff. A million sheets of scrapbook paper. Glue and paint and scissors and markers and colored pencils. And decoupage. Yarn. I have materials for almost anything you could think of.
It makes me happy to have my daughter here, making stuff. She's working on a diorama. I'll show you some pictures if she'll let me.
Meanwhile, last week I did a new ice dyed sweatshirt.
Which is now hers.
I love ice dye, you never know what you're going to end up with. I actually have another sweatshirt to dye, and a couple ideas about the colors I want to use.
And I have a buttload of other things ready to dye, which is this week's project.
I'm making some slipper socks for my dad, too. With his heart problems his feet swell and regular slippers are uncomfortable for him. So I'm doing some XXL diabetic cotton socks and putting non-skid stuff on the soles. I hope those will work and cheer him up a little. I'm making my mom a big t shirt with hearts on it to sleep in, also. I think tie dye is a cheerful sort of thing, don't you?
It's nice to have Lyssa and Mason here.
I am not lonely the way I have been since the world closed.

So thankful I've never had migraines. Worked with someone who got them so bad I would drive her home. She couldn't see straight.
ReplyDeleteOnce in a great while I get one that renders me unable to drive. This one wasn't that type, although just as painful. It's not fun.
DeleteI'm glad that Lyssa and Mason are with you. I'd love for Mollie and Chris to be with me, or Matt or Tim and Jack. But they seem to be happy where they are. Someday soon the world will be open and safe again. I keep telling myself that.
ReplyDeleteI hear you. I keep telling myself similar things. This is something that no one could possibly have been ready for mentally. It's been really, really hard for me, I have been alone a lot. I'm glad my daughter is here, I missed her.
DeleteI wanted to tell you that Mason arrived with a terrible canker sore, a reaction to the stress he was under. Because of your help several years ago when you turned me on to Magic Mouthwash, I was able to help him find some relief. So thank you for that!
I used to have migraines but don't get them much anymore. I used to take Imitrex for them and one time the migraine was so bad my doc gave me an injection of Imitrex. Well that was a huge mistake. The top of my head felt like it was on fire for a couple of hours. It was so weird. I hope your migraine is gone now.
ReplyDeleteI use generic Imitrex. Sumatriptan. It's not a fun medication, which seems kind of unfair. If you gotta take it, it should at least be enjoyable since the headache is SO bad. Today I feel decent, crossing my fingers that this one is over.
DeleteHappy to see that you are enjoying your time with Lyssa! I love the sweatshirt...really cool. I've been tempted to try the ice dying, looks like even I could do it! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love ice dye except that it's time consuming. Not so much work time, but time waiting for allllll that ice to melt. I generally use 2 10 lb bags. You have to have a rack or some other thing that holds your main garment above the bottom of the bin while the ice melts and a place to stash it while you wait. And don't forget to wear a mask, N95 is best, the dye particles aren't good for you to breathe. Check out some YouTube videos before attempting or shoot your questions my direction and I'll try to help.
DeleteSorry your Migraines are ass kicking... but glad you found a concoction to give relief. I've had them, my Grandson had chronic ones during Puberty, they're so debilitating. Mine mysteriously disappeared as mysteriously as they came, but during Menopause, so I kinda wonder if my Hormone situation triggered them? Now I'm Post Menopausal never had another, never had one before Menopause either. Anyway, LOVE the Ice Dyed Sweatshirt Jacket, I've never heard of Ice Dying, will have to Google that... since my Granddaughter wanted to do Tie Dye but I forgot how to... GASP... I'm losing my Old Hippie Membership now I know, shhhhh, don't tell anyone!
ReplyDeleteThis ice dye process is a lot different than tie dyeing, but the results are amazing. I did one for my mom and she has had people offer her money for it while she's out shopping. I'll be doing regular tie dye for the t shirts and socks etc. That's always fun, too.
DeleteI'm pretty sure my migraines are hormonal, but even though I'm 5 years post menopause, I still get them. ::sigh::
