Lyssa Update

Pixel came wandering out of the burned out kitchen while Alyssa and Mason were in what's left of their house, surveying the damage.

A visit to the vet let them know that her throat was sore from smoke inhalation, but that her lungs are good and she should be okay.

They escaped with nothing. No shoes, socks, underwear.
All the necessities one needs, like toothbrushes and girl stuff.

I'm humbled by the generosity of my friends and family.
I'm not going to mention names here as the gifts were privately given.

But I can tell you that some of the people who gave money to my daughter are people who have never met her. OR me. I have a group of friends I've been chatting with online for over 20 years. And some of them sent money.

A guy I went to high school with and haven't seen in 40 years? He sent money to her.

A friend who had her daughter in my girl scout troop.

Another friend who also had a girl in my troop and has been my friend for many years.

Someone who entrusted her kids to me for a couple years about 28 years ago sent money.

More than one relative, too.

I'm glad we kept Lyssa's checking account here. I can put money in her account in an emergency situation. I'm pretty sure this qualifies as an emergency.

So Lyssa tried to call me when they were sitting in the ambulance watching their house burn and my phone didn't recognize Mason's number as an emergency contact. So the call didn't go through.

But I heard her. She was saying, "Mom. Mom, wake up."

I woke up and looked at my phone to see what time it was. And saw there were three phone calls from his number.

When I talked to her a couple days later, she TOLD me that she had closed her eyes and sent out with all she had, "Mom, wake up."

That stuff runs in the family.
It's not out and on view all the time, but now and then, it comes in handy.

The fire marshall has determined the official cause of the fire.
The chimney 'professional' who charged them nearly one thousand dollars to inspect/repair their chimney put paper-backed insulation against the stove pipe. Alllll along it. The paper was clearly stamped 'FLAMMABLE do not put near a heat source'.

I don't know what will happen with that. I know that I want to go there and find the guy and tear his head off with my bare hands.

The fact that it's not likely that I could ever do it doesn't stop me from wanting to, though.

She's okay. Mason is okay. Pixel is okay.
I'm grateful.
