I posted a link on the book o' face this week.
I think it's worth reading. It addresses the fact that people treat each other like shit based on politics. That people put politics ahead of their own families. That the political shenanigans of all the fuckwits and reprobates currently in office are more important than, well, anything.
I find that disgusting, personally.
There's a difference between deciding that politics has no place at the family holiday dinner or deciding that Aunt Bessie isn't going to be invited 'cause she supports the R or the D party.
So I posted the link along with this commentary:
I had a similar discussion with a friend today. Name calling and hating your friends and family
should have no place in how we run our elections. Does anyone really
believe that calling people names when you disagree with their politics
is going to change anything? Certainly not for the better.
It was amazing.
Two people immediately explained why the name calling of Trump was justified.
uh..???
What the fuck does that have to do with what I posted?
Well, nothing.
Obviously they didn't click on the link.
Call the politicians names all you want.
Part of what they signed up for.
It's not going to fix anything, and only someone with limited intelligence is going to change his or her mind based on that tactic, but whatever. If it makes you feel better to call them names, knock yourself out.
If it weren't aggravating as fuck, it might be interesting... I make a statement about ANYTHING political, and immediately several friends and acquaintances think they can extrapolate my politics based on one statement or a link they didn't even bother to read.
Another wtf??? moment.
If I say I don't like candidate B, they immediately bombard me with links and commentary about what a shitbag candidate A is.
They've decided I must like A 'cause I said something about candidate B that I disagreed with.
Usually that isn't true.
But people are so polarized that it's ridiculous.
Guys. Save your vitriol for the people who deserve it. The "public servants" who are doing anything but serving the people they're supposed to represent.
Stop seeing your friends, relatives, neighbors as the enemy.
They're not the enemy.
Believe me, (or don't... it's not my job to fix you) the power-tripping assholes who are supposed to be representing us LOVE the conflict and arguing and name calling. While you're focused on that, they continue to profit from what they're doing.
PAY NO ATTENTION TO THAT MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN!!
I don't understand why people don't realize we're all in the same boat.
And you, your grandma, your mechanic and the lady who makes your coffee at Starbucks have no control over where that boat's going.
But those same power-tripping "public servants" figured out ages ago that if they can keep everyone arguing and hating, they're free to do whatever they hell they want. And the pillaging goes on. And on.
Having spent many years in my middle years active in politics (precinct committeeman) I can recall when things were civil. We disagreed without being disagreeable. No so much today.
ReplyDeleteNo one can say, "I disagree."
DeleteInstead they say things like, "You're an idiot."
We're all the idiots apparently, 'cause shitbags-without-the-bag are all we elect.
