I was in my car Thursday morning, waiting for a little traffic to clear out out of the school parking lot when I heard a man yelling. I cracked my window and heard, "You're a dumb fucking bitch."
There was a woman standing on the sidewalk outside the main entrance doors. She was holding a toddler. She said something to the guy about children being around and he told her to, "Shut the fuck up."
A man came out the doors of the school and stood beside her and guy #1 got even more angry. Called guy #2 'a fucking idiot' and said, "You could at least have the balls to FUCKING introduce yourself!"
H stomped off along the sidewalk, alternating his monologue between 'stupid fucking asshole' and 'dumb fucking bitch'.
Stepped into the crosswalk in front of a passing car then swore at the driver of the car, too.
The principal had joined the couple on the sidewalk and was gesturing to them to proceed into the building, then he took off walking toward the guy who was by then about halfway down the block. I didn't stick around to see more of the story unfolding, I headed out.
In the afternoon I talked with the principal for a few minutes, apparently the story had continued after I left and law enforcement had to be contacted. The swearing guy is now banned from the school grounds. Some family issues, apparently.
I understand being angry. But I can't imagine going to my child(ren)'s school and making a scene like that one where people can hear and see it. How embarrassing for the children involved.
Do you remember that crazy bitch who tried to run over me with her car?
I just spent about 20 minutes trying to find the post, but I can't even remember what year it was. Ah. Found it. I didn't say a lot about her at the time, I think I may need to rewrite that one and post it soon. She was pissed off because she had to come pick up her child from my program after I took her off the school bus, thinking that she was supposed to be with me. I escorted her daughter out to the car, Mom screamed at me for about three minutes, then steered her car toward me as she gunned it out of the parking lot. Ex husband told me the next week that he was sorry. "Yeah, she's crazy," he said. "That's why I divorced her."
I wondered then what kind of parent abuses his or her child's caregiver. Not all people who take care of kids are able to separate the anger of the adult from their feelings about the children in their care.
And how humiliating for the little people who are stuck in these relationships.
The profanity-yelling 'father' is now banned from the school grounds. Hopefully permanently.
It could be worse. My wife is a retired teacher of 35 years. A few years before her retirement, a man came onto the school grounds with a pistol. He shot his wife in the hand, and took a shot at her supposed lover. He was arrested later, got out on bond, and fled into Mexico.
ReplyDeleteMy wife has stated that over the years, her 4th grade classes went from gentle, docile, eager to learn students, to vulgar, aggressive souls during her last year...Parents being the root of the problems. I have heard many, many stories of morning duty...it gets very ugly.
+1 on the above conclusion.
DeleteI've seen a lot of really awful stuff over the years, and it's true that a large amount of attitude and rudeness comes from the parents.
DeleteI have to say that I've seen many amazing kids, too. And encountered parents who are crazy about their kids, have treated me and school staff with great respect and that they give me hope for the future.
I would prefer not to see or hear anything like what I saw this week, though.
So sad to hear about adults like this. This type of behavior becoming too frequent. Ya hit your thumb with a hammer, a cuss or two might be warranted. But abusive language like that around children is unacceptable. Bless you and others who have the temperament and patience to realize that some people will forever be jerks.
ReplyDeleteIt's so unfair to little people, they have no say in any of it. Taking care of their spirits is the most important thing I do. I try to keep that in front of me no matter what's going on around us. I can't change the world. I can't fix the things that are wrong everywhere. But I can take care of 'my' kids and try to make their lives less frantic/upsetting/hurtful.
