Counting Down

Not sure how many days are left in the school year and if I pull up my calendar to count them right now, I'll get distracted.
Ooooh!
Shiny!!

And then another day will go by and stuff happens and I think, "I should write about this" and then I don't and then BOOM another day goes past.

But it's getting toward the end of the school year and I hate summers with this organization.

Hate them.

I have yet to see another site that runs the way mine does, with a ton of constructive activities to occupy kids, noise and activity indoors at a particular level, manners and demeanor on field trips managed and appropriate.

Every other site I've seen is a madhouse. The kids are BORED. There aren't enough toys and things for them to do, so instead they chase each other, yell, speak inappropriately to each other, tear things up and repeat on an endless cycle. The staff spends a great deal of their time in damage control and putting out fires. This isn't an efficient way to run the program, and it does absolutely nothing to improve our reputation, which just leaves the door open for any company (usually the one I used to work for) to come in and take over.

As a whole, we are not good stewards. We are not considerate guests in the schools. We are not looked upon with favor by most of the school staff and principals we deal with. Think about it. If kids are being 'watched' after school, there should not be running/yelling/destruction of property. No child should be unsupervised. No child should be out of our sight unless they're going to the bathroom.

The people running programs don't have a clue about how to develop relationships with the school staff, with program parents, with the kids and with other staff. As a result it's just carnage.

Last summer was a fucking nightmare. The facility I was stuck in was not clean, was not well-run (wasn't run at all, really) some of the staff were abusive toward the children in their care, the kids weren't being kept safe. The playground was a complete free for all. The equipment was not in good repair, we found broken glass and rocks on the playground several times. The silly twat who was supposed to be in charge allowed children to be fucking BAREFOOT outdoors, which is not only stupid, it's against licensing laws.

And yes, I did notify the people who should be notified.
Not that anyone in this organization (and I used the term loosely) really cares too much about day to day operations. I think they care about kids, but it's too hard to find people so they just sort of let shit slide.

The bubblehead who 'runs' the site I worked in for three eternal afternoons during the holidaze would have been fired 10 times over by my former employer. And they're not the gold standard, believe me. Considering what they allowed that bitch Fluffy and and her Cavalcade of Cunts to get away with, they have some pretty relaxed standards themselves. But they're waaaay above the current  keep-your-job-yeah-you're-an-idiot-but-no-one-died-did-they standards I'm seeing now.

I did appreciate being able to run Spring Break camp in a way that worked for me, but I haven't heard yet what's going to happen for summer.

Thursday is the meeting to let us know where they expect us to work over summer. I'm not sure that I'll be running a site. If not, I'm not sure I'll work.

Okay, off to bed. I get up at 5 you know.
And then I get to drive all the way over to the office, which is 22.8 miles from here.
