Well fuck a goddamned duck.

I messed with the settings on my blog ages ago and made it less easy to search. Back when those shitbag comp lawyers were reading it. Although that was sort of silly, I guess, since I specifically wrote many posts for them to read. Dumb shits.

So that heading,'Fuck a goddamned duck' may not attract a lot of notice, which is fine. I write for me.
(It's fine for you to read, too...)

On the other hand, I may attract some kind of weirdo after all.
Who knows?
::shrug:::

Wait... raise your hand if you're weird.
:::waiting:::

Ah yes, I see you over there in the back. And you, halfway up the aisle, feet hanging out into the walkway. And you, groping your neighbor.

Huh. I guess there are more of you than I thought.
I can't see the point in worrying about weirdos now.
Yep, this IS one of you. I think.

So my principal talked to me a few weeks ago. He said that the district was going to send out a survey to parents in the district to find out their feelings and wishes about childcare being offered in each school. At that time he assured me that he'd already let the district know that he was quite happy with the care already being provided in our school and that there was 'nothing' to worry about.

I worried. He told me to tell parents that it was 'just a survey' and that no one was planning to change our arrangements. I still worried, but didn't say much about it. What could I say?

So then, one of my parents came in and said that she'd received the survey and it was about the SUN program. Which, in my opinion, is a terrible program. The people who work in that program do not have to pass a licensing inspection, they get around that law as well as others through some legal but shady maneuvering.

I have seen several of their programs in action. None of them were programs I'd ever trust my child(ren) with. Appalling is just one word I'd use. Ugh.

So I told her that our principal had assured me that everything was fine, that our program wasn't going anywhere.

I actually believed it.
Until today.

Today our principal stopped by to tell me that the district is 'probably' going to have
THE COMPANY I USED TO WORK FOR!!! (aka Assholes Inc, not the SUN program) come into our district and run programs before and after school.

"But of course we'll take steps to ensure you remain the site coordinator here. Apparently they usually hire the people who are working in the current programs."

I smiled at him.
"Um. I used to work for them. That's where I was just before I got here. I will never work for them again. They're horrible individuals and a terrible company to work for."

He told me, "Well, don't worry about it yet, I am going to a meeting tomorrow and I'll learn more about what's going on then."

Have you ever worried? And had someone suggest to you that you not worry?
Were you then magically able to stop worrying?

Yeah, me neither.

Now if it *does* happen, I won't work for those awful people again.

I doubt they'd want me anyway, although I didn't use words like fuck and shit or phrases like up yours, I still did a pretty good job of burning bridges. I heard through the grapevine that some of what I said was useful in termination of the Big Fish, too. Not sure about that, but if it was, yay. At any rate, they wouldn't want me back and they couldn't pay me enough to even consider it. No fucking way.

They pay shit wages and not only do they treat their employees like crap, they're very disrespectful to the children stuck in their 'care'. It's only gotten worse since I left with the whole 'one art project every 10 days' and 'let's do school after school' stuff.

So I did my afternoon shift today with a big lump in my heart. The principal told me that he is to attend a meeting tomorrow in which more discussion will happen and that he'll have some better information for me tomorrow.

Now if it does happen, and I have to leave, I won't lose my job. The company I work for is always hiring. And opening new sites. They already know that I'm good at what I do, that I am able to form relationships with school staff and that I take the job seriously. I'm sure there's a place for me.

But goddamn it.

I don't want to start over again.

Fuck a goddamned duck.

  1. If I were a parent at your school, I would WANT TO KNOW the dirt on that company, so I could 1. let the school know I would withdraw my child 2. find alternative care 3. warn other parents via the grapevine. School district starts hearing from parents how they will pull their kids and NOT use childcare if they make the switch and it might work. but warn the parents. They can't protest what they don't know about. And - good luck!

    1. I will wait to find out exactly what's happening, then I will indeed have a lot to say. :::sigh:::

    1. I keep thinking that this would be the perfect time to start my own.. but then I remember I have GREAT health insurance that's also affordable... and I'm almost 60.

  3. Doesn't Portland have 'alternative' newspapers? They thrive on exposing shit.

    1. They do have them. My guess, though, is that unless someone's making the kids eat maggots or they're being physically abused, no one gives a shit.

I'm really sad this morning, though.
:::clicking clock icon to make sure it is still morning, we got a full 'snow day' for a skiff of snow and a bit of ice on the streets:::

    3. Hadn't considered that. I definitely WILL consider it if the need arises.

  4. Well damn. Yeah I would be worrying too. I hope that things don't happen where you have to start over again.

    1. I'm trying to stay ahead of it in my thought processes. First, if they kick my program out of the school and I must begin again somewhere else, I am fully stocked. The things I have contributed would go with me (instead of much of it being left behind like I did at the last job.) I know exactly how good I am at what I do, and *can* start over at another facility. Of course I'd prefer not to, but I can't imagine ANY circumstance in which I'd go back to work for those nasty people I used to work for.

So worst case scenario, start at a new school with the enthusiastic support of the company I currently work for, supplies intact. There would be an uphill journey for awhile, but I've done it before.

Obviously a huge inconvenience and another heartbreak, but not nearly so large as the last one. Had I known how hard it would be, I don't know if I could have done it.

  5. This change is likely prompted by "saving money". There are lots a great things about saving money ~ we recently switched cell phone providers and are paying $20 (for both of us!!) instead of $110 MONTHLY. But there are some things that save us money that are rotten to the core, and the SUN program is one of those.

I talk to patients all the time when they are newly retired and looking for dental insurance. They invariably chose something cheap, only to discover that the major work they now need isn't covered. I would be surprised if they looked at anything but the price, and you get what you pay for (with the exception of the above noted cell phone bill).

I hope they make the right decision, in the best interests of the kids, and for you.

    1. Well, it's not SUN coming in. If it were, then I wouldn't be getting booted out, as SUN co-exists with many other programs. Unfortunately SUN is taxpayer funded. And they're wasting our money.

The district currently doesn't have a contract with any provider other than the one I work for,and we're just in one school.

Assholes, Inc sells themselves as an educational program, but they're very disrespectful of children and employees.

I really don't want to start over. Really really don't.

  6. What about your employer though? Shouldn't they know and be able to do something about all this?? Sigh - crossing fingers!!

(oh and yes, I'm one of the weird ones, but not dressed weirdly)

    1. After I talk to the principal I will talk to my employer. My guess is that they will not even bother to stand up for themselves/me. They'll just move me elsewhere.
      ::sigh::

      My heart is sad.
