200 psi

I was afraid to google for swollen lip/hives. It's scary enough to see it on myself in the mirror. I have no idea what I'd see if I looked it up.

Woke up this morning with my lower lip swollen up so much it looked like I'd pumped it up. Surprised it didn't explode.

Benadryl. Hot shower. A little time. More Benadryl.
It took four hours for the swelling to go down enough for me to go out in public.
I just felt funny about it.

Stocked up on Benadryl cream, liquid Benadryl and Benadryl caplets.
And I'll call the doc office this week and try to get in so I can ask my doctor to send me to an allergy specialist.

It hasn't been a serious reaction (I haven't had problems breathing) yet. And I have no damn idea what I'm reacting to.

I haven't changed soaps. Haven't eaten anything weird. No new deodorant or shampoo or hairspray. Laundry soap is the same. Medications are the same.

I've done a bit of reading. If it was venom from a spider, it can take months to leave one's system. A course of oral steroids is sometimes what needs to happen. And I'm going to ask for it.

What a pain in the ass.

  1. Not to wish a spider bite on you, but hope that is it so steriods can help. Need to find out what is causing this, in case next exposure does cause throat tightening :-( One of my kids, oldest dd (not the one studying to be a teacher) has had a few food allergies pop up this last year (age 24) - soy and egg can now cause need for Epi-Pen and medical care!!!! Even air-born egg molecules, so we cook no eggs here if she is coming over. Point is, her reactions have gotten increasingly bad so it is important to figure out what is causing your reaction to avoid future exposure and a possible worse reaction :-( Good luck!

Side note - eggs and;/or soy products seem to be in everything! Not quite as bad as when I was trying to bake for my late MIL who had a corn allergy, but still. Good luck - I hope an allergist can pinpoint what caused the hives so you can avoid it happening again!!

    1. I really think it was the bite on my left foot. I'd never had anything like this until then.

Yes, soy and eggs are in everything. That would be a scary allergy combo. I think that just a course of steroids would take care of it, but maybe it's wishful thinking.

  2. First thing I thought of was a spider bite. A spider bit hubbys hand last month and he had to go to the hospital because a huge blister started making it's way up his arm from it. Never did find out what kid of spider it was. But it's all better now.

    1. I don't know what it was that bit me. It didn't hang around to talk.Haha. Scary about what happened to your hubby, but glad it's okay now. I haven't ever experienced anything like this.

  3. Maybe it did hang around, but then you ate it in your sleep? Gosh, I'm freaking myself out here. Think I had a tiny spider bite early September. Three "holes" in a triangle shape - you can still see the scars. SOOOO glad I didn't get any weird symptoms though - my oh my, I'd go nuts having what everyone here talks about!
Hang in there yourself (tried weaving a web yet?), hug from little B (the country...)

    1. Well isn't that a happy thought, ate it in my sleep. Haha.No.
I carefully examined the bite but never could figure out if there were two holes or three or 98.

I haven't woven any webs, but I did have the urge to swing between some tall buildings.

  4. Wow - had not thought of the super powers that are certainly about to kick in.... ;-)

You'd think the greater Spider Community would have passed word that Ami is one of the nice humans who doesn't kill spiders, a Friend of Spiders, and left you alone. I bet it was a teenage spider on a dare who chomped you...

    1. Yeah, but I'm gonna look like hell in the spidey suit. Not enough eye bleach in the universe.

  5. Drat, hives and swelling are not to be ignored. I did experience waking to my lips being swollen, which freaked me out, but eventually I figured out it was the stress of my previous job. I haven't had a reoccurrence, so kind of weird. I hope you get your appointment soon!

    1. I hope so too.
I don't have any idea what the hell is going on.
But it did look sort of funny.

  6. I get myself to a urgent care because this could be something worse and if it is a spider you don't want to wait. Good luck.

    1. Well if it *was* a spider I have already waited since the end of July. The only immediate effect I had from the bite was that it ITCHED for nine days. Nine. Excruciating.Days.

About two days after that, the hives started and have been with me off and on since. So I'm not feeling as urgent as I might otherwise have felt.

And I wish I weren't stuck with this new doctor. I don't hate her. I just don't have any confidence in her. We don't understand each other.
