Fallout

The site manager greeted me Tuesday morning by saying, "I have no staff today, you'll need to be in charge in the camp."

"Okay."

She wasn't happy to see me, though.
She avoided speaking to me for most of the day, only spoke to tell me when I should take a break or do x or x. Very brief. Abrupt. And not a very friendly face.

That's fine. I don't work for her. I work for the kids. Always have.
I knew when I sent the incident up the line that my friendly working relationship with Candice would be over.

Let's do the math, shall we?

immediate relegation to shit status

I knew what the consequences would probably be when I reported.
And will always stand up for kids.
Yeah, it is kind of hard to go to work after something like that, and I knew she didn't like me anymore. But still.

So she wasn't the one to tell me the various things that happened, but I did hear a bit.

Helen was asked to come into Candice's office to talk after I left on Monday. I don't know what the conversation was like, but Helen became angry and got up, grabbed her purse and left.

Company protocol requires a person to be placed on leave if there is a question about their suitability to be around children, so she is not going to be on site until the investigation has concluded.
*IF* they find in her favor.

I won't even speculate about that.
Each staff person who was present when the incident occurred was asked to write up an incident form and have it turned in by the end of the day on Tuesday.
My manager came to see me at that site. Brought me a stack of registration forms and brochures and business cards because Wednesday (oh dear, that's today!) is the new school's open house and registration event.

I shared the rest of the crazy-school-age-program-is-all-messed-up list with her. She asked me to email her the list and we agreed that there would be some clarification as needed.

And she also requested an incident report from the July 13th incident with Jerry and Helen. That was my first exposure to her particular brand of working 'with' children.

I have seen so many things this summer that weren't right. But many of them are of the 'staff needs more experience/training' variety and aren't a danger to kids. Common sense isn't all that common, so they need to learn. But the cumulative list was quite impressive.

I'm not sure I would have ended up passing the whole list on if the big event of Monday hadn't happened, but I think I realized that I am permanently on Candice's Feces Roster.

So nothing to lose. And I admit to being at the point of pissed as hell and willing to say more because of that.

Believe me, I have a temper and a half.

Tomorrow is my last day at summer camp.
That ought to be fun.
