Doing what?!?

Yesterday afternoon, while I was (unsuccessfully) trying to catch a nap, my phone buzzed at me.

I was trying to find it under the sheet next to me, but by the time I did, it had stopped. Only buzzed a couple times, though. I put my reading glasses on and peered at it owlishly.

"Bob," it said.

Bob is my father in law.

Since the phone had only vibrated twice and there was no message recorded, I decided to wait until I got up before trying to figure out what, if anything, Bob wanted.

I'd say he accidentally dials me at least twice a month, sometimes more often. He has two people in his directory whose names begin with an S. One of them is me, one is his wife. So apparently he just goofs up sometimes and hits the wrong one, and sometimes for whatever reason, he accidentally swipes while the phone is in a pocket or somewhere else. Not sure.

After I got up I found an email he'd sent.

Nothing in the body of the email, but the subject line was, "Sorry. Butt call."

So I emailed him back.

"Back in the dark ages of my teenagerhood, I had an argument with my father regarding my toothache and when I should have reported it to him. (Apparently I 'should have known' before I actually got the toothache).
He stood in the doorway of my room and said, "But you didn't tell me. You were out BUTT ASSIN' AROUND with your friends!!"
That's been a source of amusement for me for 40 years.
And every time your butt decides to call me, that's what I say to myself.
"Must be Bob just BUTT ASSIN' around!!"
Haha. See you in a little less than two weeks.

  1. Sounds like you like your father in law.

    1. I like him very much. He's a nice man, is a wonderful grandfather, and in the 39 years I have been with his son, he has never said one single negative thing to me. Not one. He's a good guy.

    1. It really is. All of it. Bob is a good guy, though. I'm looking forward to seeing him. ;)
