Dude.
WTF?
Fever, hives, swollen lower lip, more fever, more hives.
That's enough, m'kay?
Thanks,
Mental

Thursday evening I started getting a fever. By bedtime it was a BIG fever, the kind that makes me weird. Unable to think in a linear or even sensible fashion.
I woke up countless times during the night. Such weird things were going through my head. Ugh.
I was supposed to go to a 3 hour orientation thing at work on Friday, but not only was I too sick to go, I was pretty sure that no one wanted the same bug with school about to start.
I ended up sleeping all day.
Up to pee, back to bed. Over and over and over. Every time I got up the fever was still with me. It's still summer (although cooler) and I was using my electric blanket.
Then last night, I woke up with hives on my stomach.
What????!
Fever up and down and up and down still.
When I got up this morning, my lower lip was numb and so swollen that I looked like I'd stuck my lip in a vacuum. Allergic reaction to????
The ONLY thing I had that was different from my usual was that I used a drinking straw from a brand new bag of them. Made in China. I don't know if it's possible for that to have caused the hives/lip swelling or not. You can bet that I won't be using those straws again, though. Holy cow.
I took some Benadryl. Went back to bed. And was up and down many times to pee. The lip is almost back to normal this evening, wish I could say the same for my temperature. So weird. And I feel so off. Took some more Benadryl before I ate my dinner. First food in 24 hours.
Blech.
So that was my parting gift from the place I worked over summer, I guess. I'm trying to get the house in order, Bobapalooza 2018 is in two weeks. Making progress but there's still a lot left to be done.
Now it's time for another dose of Benadryl (we have the Walgreen's knockoff and man, that stuff tastes nasty!!) and back to bed. I managed to shower and put on something clean, but that's really all I accomplished.
Huh? And I thought I was weird, having an allergic reaction to a sting one week after being stung and falling over every morning for a week after taking and anti histamine to get some relief (no, won’t try that again either). Hang in there! And also, there are nice reusable straws in stainless steel in case you’d be interested (not for crafty projects though...)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I bought the straws for the bookmark weaving craft. Just thought with the sore throat that I'd try one.
DeleteNOT doing that again!!
Sounds like you really had an odd reaction.
That sounds like some nasty little virus you were "gifted". Hope you feel better fast! I agree - China-made straws could have had who knows what on them. While I doubt any virus could have lived that long on a straw from a worker there, who knows what odd chemical may have been around during manufacture/packaging that triggered a response. :-(
ReplyDeleteI think I was just sick already, then there was some weird assed powder (NOT ass powder, thank you) on the straws from the manufacturing process. I really don't know. It was not what I was expecting for sure. Benadryl did the trick, though. BLECH!!!
DeleteHives! Fighting them now on my wrists and back of hands. Didn't use sunscreen. Long sleeves not long enough.
ReplyDeleteI have no clue what caused mine.
DeleteStrangest thing.
So sorry to hear you're feeling bad. I hope whatever it is you caught goes away soon and you feel better.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling... more human today. Still don't feel great. Took two excedrin and am trying to time it so we can get to the grocery store and back before they stop working and I have to crawl back in bed. Yeah, he said he'd go to the store alone, but it's our weekly date and I *want* to go with him. :)
DeleteI'm trying to figure out if I'm sick or if it's pollen. Not the funnest game.
ReplyDeleteFeel better.
We managed the grocery shopping together, but that was about all I had the energy for. Heading back to bed for awhile now. Hoping tomorrow will be much better. ;)
DeleteLike Juli, Romeo and I are sneezing and hacking up mucous (blech). Not sure if it's allergies (pollen is very high) or just a summer cold. Those are some scary symptoms you have there, and I hope all is well in a few days.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing okay, but every evening about 8, my stomach starts to itch. Last night there were only 3 bumps. So weird.
DeleteI was in Denver around the same time and got a wicked allergic reaction across my eyes. One of the possible culprits was all the smoke from the west coast wildfires.
ReplyDeleteAll I know is that I'm really glad to have had Benadryl on hand. Have taken quite a few of them over the last couple weeks. But we found the culprit. Gold Bond Body Spray.
