I brought my own LEGO to work. A ton of it. And in a special little green bin, a bunch of minifigures, some real and some knockoffs I bought from Amazon.
The only way I can make it fair is to allow the kids to choose one at a time. They take turns being the person who goes first.
Today Louis punched Caden because even though he'd gone first, he didn't get all the guys he wanted. When I intervened, first making sure Caden was okay, then talking to Louis, I got called a "stupid idiot" and was informed, "I hate you."
Well, he can hate me all he wants, but I'm not going to allow him to hurt another person.
This afternoon's meltdown included several people being called a stupid idiot, having the LEGO guys dumped out and swept off the top of the table with a broad motion, causing them to go everywhere, the magnets got the same treatment. My suggestion that we treat our stuff with respect was met with Louis taking one of the LEGO baseplates and trying with all his might to break it in half.
He ran. He screamed. He told me more than once that I was a stupid idiot and he hated me.
The suggestion of having time/space to reset was met with him growling at me.
When I told him we'd be 'going outside soon, maybe running around a bit will make you feel better' he told me that he would not go outside. That he would just stay indoors.
I told him that I couldn't leave him inside, but that it would still be awhile before we went out and he told me to shut up.
::sigh::
His dad came to get him early-ish, which was helpful in allowing the other kids some space to just have a good time without all the anger in their midst, but stuff like this does have an effect on them.
::sigh:: again.
Apparently LEGO guys are an issue.
Hah! That'll teach you not to bring your own stuff to work... at least not the LEGO bin.
ReplyDeleteWell, bins full of LEGO sitting in the momcave aren't the same as bins full at work where kids can play with them. I figure that things will occasionally get broken, with or without Louis. And would not deprive the other kids of the opportunity to play with the LEGO.
DeleteBut it does aggravate me, there isn't any reason to destroy the things I've brought, either.
How long until L is removed? I am sure the other kids have been complaining to their parents about the mean kid in daycare.
ReplyDeleteI am following procedures regarding documentation. It's not up to me, of course. And although I will feel bad when it happens, I can't see any other way to fix the problem.
DeleteThe only thing consistent about Louis is his inconsistency.
ReplyDeleteEventually the powers that be will have no choice but to remove him from your program. I just hope they don't take too long, because it sounds like he is quite physical along with the verbal outbursts.
He has a disability, which changes our procedures. Under ADA certain things have to happen. I want him to succeed, I think it would be good for him, but I'm not sure it's possible. I'm glad we're not in the little classroom we were in this time last year. That would add a whole new set of problems over the top of the ones he's having.
