Blast off..

Dane and Colin are going to take a trip over Spring break. They're headed for NASA HQ in Houston. They've been looking forward to it for awhile, and this last week have really been talking about it.

Colin told me that his mom wants them to see the movie Apollo 13 before they go.

Then he made a 'radio' voice, holding his hand up to his mouth and making a static noise before saying, "NASA, we have an issue."

I started laughing. Couldn't help it.

I said, "Did you mean, 'Houston, we have a problem'?"

He snorted. "Oh yeah. I guess I did."

In his defense he hasn't actually seen the movie yet, although I heard that this is the weekend they're going to watch it. :)

Colin also came in smelling... odd this morning. As he has for the last week or so. Kind of like window cleaner, but not exactly. I haven't been able to figure it out.

He walked past his mom on his way to put his backpack in a basket, and she said, "Colin, when's the last time you cleaned out your backpack?"

He shrugged. Started to put it in a basket. She said, "I'd like you to clean it out this morning, please."

So he enthusiastically dived in. I suggested, after he pulled out the first two fistfuls of paper, "Dude. You might want to slow down in case you find something yucky. You may want to actually look inside your backpack as you go."

He did as I'd asked. About the fourth time he reached in, he came up with a smooshed and half-dried out tangerine. It was mostly green. He threw it away, everyone went 'eww' and he went back to finish. Pulled two more of the same type of tangerine out of the bag before he reached the bottom. I did make him wash his hands.

Today after school, he did not smell like window cleaner anymore.
