And the sun sets on another vacation...

Well, I wait until we're home to say anything about being gone.
We were gone.
We're home now.
Got home this afternoon about 4.
Unpacked.
Ran some dishes and laundry. (in different machines, of course...)

We left last Wednesday for the Oregon coast.
Spent a week in a condo up on the cliffs in Depoe Bay.
When my parents decided to buy a time share, I tried to talk them out of it. There are always time shares for sale in the newspapers and on Craigslist. I told my dad, "At least call some of those people and ask them WHY they're selling their time shares!"

He was determined, though. I'm not sure what motivated him, but you can't really talk him out of things, either.

So part of the reason he bought it, he says, is so that his family can use it, too. And we have. We pay every year to use it, but it's very inexpensive for us to do so. This year it was just a shade under 55 bucks for the whole week. You can't beat that. Just can't. Of course we had to buy groceries, but we'd have to do that anyway. Gotta feed the machine.

So I'm glad my dad bought the time share. Otherwise we'd never be able to afford a vacation.

It was interesting trying to get out of town on the 15th. When I went out to my car that morning, I smelled gasoline. Couldn't figure out where it came from, but I had to zip, didn't want to be late to work. So the person who was supposed to relieve me at 10 AM 'forgot'. I received a phone call about 10 minutes before she was supposed to show up to let me know that she wasn't going to show up. The guy who called said he was sending someone else as soon as he could get her there, apologized for the delay, expressed a hope that it wouldn't make me late for anything.

Well it wasn't his fault. I'm not going to crab at someone for that. I told him that, "I'll be here, thanks for calling," and went back to helping Dane start on the K'nex roller coaster. Not sure if he made progress in my absence or not.

The person they sent out to relieve me showed up about 30 minutes late, then I spent another 30 minutes or so showing her where things were and explaining a few things so that she could then pass that information on to the person who was showing up to relieve HER. Sound convoluted? That's because it is. But since it's a single-person site, that's how things work.

So I got home about 11 instead of 10.

Then we had to go pick up our rental car. We decided to rent a full sized car since Lyssa was coming with us and Eric wanted to bring his computer. Drove to Hertz, got the car. Then I went to get my hair cut (couldn't stand the shaggy anymore) and by the time that was over, it was 1:15 or so.

Loaded up the car, finally realized the gasoline smell was because some fuckwad had siphoned all the gas out of our truck and spilled it on the driveway.
Fuckkkkkkkk!

So when we finally got headed out of town, it was around 2:30. I called the police department on the way, letting them know. The officer who called me back told me that, "We've had a lot of gasoline theft lately."

He asked if I wanted a police report for my insurance, but there would be no point to that, they're not going to pay for gas, ya know? I did let him know the house would be unoccupied for a week, though. He said he'd add it to the drive past and look list.

Although it's about two hours to drive to the coast, it took longer because of the traffic on the way. Always does.
It was 7 PM when we finally finished unpacking and then drove back to Lincoln City to Mo's for a clam chowder dinner.
Hell of a day. So much for getting out of town early.

We had a nice time. Matt and Amy came over on Saturday and spent the day. Took Lyssa to a casino, where they asked for her ID and for her brother's, too. But not Amy's. They were teasing her about that, but she really doesn't look old either.

Eric grilled steaks. We watched a movie or two. Played with computers. Drew pictures. Slept in.

We aren't party animals, so there was no nightclubbing or anything rowdy.
Just a family relaxing together at the beach.

A week is never long enough, of course. But I'm grateful to have had it.

Tomorrow morning, back to being a glorified babysitter. Up at 5. Wahoo.

I'm the short one, she's the pretty one.

    1. I only brought the small camera this time. Of course when I drag along the big one I worry all the time that someone's going to steal it out of my car. But I get better photos. It's a hard choice.

I am ready to leave on another vacation tomorrow, I so enjoy the company of my husband. He's a good man.

    1. It wasn't bad. 60 degrees for a high, in the upper 40s for lows. Our condo was warm, enclosed on all fours sides by other units. We had to keep the sliding glass door on the balcony open so we could breathe.

It was a nice time. I am glad we went.

  3. I think you just made me realize I could really use a vacation too, and some time near the beach. But no time share in our family... and no time for vacation and going to the beach either actually. So I'll look some more at your pictures. They're pretty. Thanks for sharing them.

  4. Love the photos, and love that such hard-working folks like you and yours can get away for a week to such a great place. But when you said Mo's, I about dropped my jaw....Mo's is a place we used to frequent when we lived in Corvallis, oh about 30 years ago. Nice to know it is still there...Romeo loved their clam chowder!

    1. Wonderful chowder. By the time we ate dinner that night, I was about to drop from hunger, so it was one of the best meals in my entire life. Downside, for the two bowls of chowder, a grilled cheese sandwich and one variety plate of shrimp etc it was almost 50 bucks. And our waitress was new and forgot to bring us our damn sourdough bread. Hmph.
