Schools across the metro area closed again tomorrow.
It's white out there, but on top of the white we're gonna get a clear layer. Supposed to have freezing rain all day tomorrow.
Or off and on.
Or maybe just in the morning.
Or maybe in the afternoon.
Or only during the night.
The weather guys can't agree.
The forecast seems to change hourly.
My district was the first one to cancel this time.
I was expecting them to wait until 5 AM to call it, even though it's obvious to me that there's no way in hell that school buses can travel safely. Definitely not something I want to drive in. And of course once I've driven somewhere, I have to get out of the car and walk.
The ice cleats I ordered from Amazon should be arriving at my school tomorrow, but since the building will be closed, I'm pretty sure they won't be delivering them.

On the good side, the forecast seems to be for warmer temperatures, which is definitely a good thing. We haven't had a day warmer than 32 since December 29th.
I know that doesn't seem like a big deal to my readers who live where it's cold all winter, but it's unusual for my area to be like that and I friggin' hate it.
Apparently it's going to rain like hell on Wednesday and be 50 degrees. Which means all this snow is going to melt and we're going to have floods. Hopefully it won't be anywhere close to what happened in 1996, that was a horrendous mess.
There were many deaths and a whole lot of property loss and sadness.
We were in Disneyland when this happened. We came home during the height of the flooding, drove up I-5 and saw the destruction all the way up.
Our house was fine, we are high enough above the Columbia that I don't think we'll ever need to worry.

I lived in the PNW in 96 and I very much remember this.

So it's possible that we ate dinner in the same restaurant at the same time, or passed each other on the freeway or shopped in the same store!
DeleteOne time I was sitting at an intersection and my son said, "Did you ever think about this? The 14 cars that are here in the same time and place will NEVER be together again?"
Up to then I had never thought about that. But since then, I occasionally do.
Although your cleats won't be here, take a bag of salt (or kitty litter if you have it) and sprinkle where you're going to walk. Might be slow going though. Be safe!
ReplyDeleteThey're keeping things closed as long as they need to. When schools opened last Tuesday, they really shouldn't have. There were a lot of complaints and I know of at least one injury on school property (not our school) due to falling on the ice. They keep promising warmer temperatures 'tomorrow' but then tomorrow doesn't come...
DeleteHoly cow. We had a blizzard two weeks ago Saturday. Then we had 50-60 degree days that have all but washed it away. It's supposed to be above 40 for the next ten days at least, with no snow in sight for us...

I seem to remember 2 years ago, when our first snow wasn't until Jan. 25th... and then we got 7 feet in 30 days. It was the first year I actually had to go and clear off the flat part of the roof... and the paint peeled right off the house from the ice dams.
I think I remember those storms, they were allll over the news. It was awful and took awhile for you all to dig your way out!
DeleteIt has been... interesting. I have considered opening my own school age day care more than once. I am stopped by the idea of not being able to do that in a location besides my own house. But if I HAD opened a business, I wouldn't have missed the last week of work, I could still take kids (provided their parents could get them there) for full days. I'd be making money instead of panicking.
