And here we are.
A week ago today, I woke up with a hoarse voice and a bit of stuffy nose and (of course) a fever.
Usually, unless I'm throwing up, I go to work anyway.
I figure that I caught the nasty cold from the germy butt-diggin', nose-pickin' sugar eaters anyway... may as well dose up on aspirin, get showered and dressed and just go in and hang out with them.
If I stayed home I'd still be sick, but I'd stress over who is there and are they taking good care of the kids or messing with my stuff... being a control freak is a real pain in the ass in case you wondered.
But I can't seem to shake this bug. My head is all stuffy and when I turn from one side to the other while sleeping, I wake up and have to grab a tissue to stuff in my nose because it starts to run like a faucet. Yum.
I am currently running on grit and Excedrin. In that order. When I got out of bed this morning to take a shower, I was so cold that I was shivering. Under the hottest water I could stand. I could NOT get warmed up. Yuck. I had goosebumps.
The Excedrin kicked in about the time I made it to work, so my morning shift wasn't too bad, although I'm really, really tired. So I was properly grateful for the morning nap.
I took my temperature this evening before I left work. It was 100 on the nose. Explains the cold chills and the headache between my eyes.
Blech. Again.

I've been working a bit at a time to clean out the back room. It's a big job. I don't think anyone has thrown anything out in 20 years.
Do you remember the moldy refrigerator that was at my site? I really should have taken photos but it didn't occur to me until the thing was cleaned up.
The bubbleheaded twit ("I have a degree in women's studies!!") who ran the site last year did not defrost and clean the fridge when she closed the site down for summer. Instead, she just unplugged it and let it sit all summer long.
When I opened it on September 2nd, the entire interior was full of mold. It was truly disgusting. It was only after I started trying to clean it that the true scope of the mess was shown, though. I pulled the drip tray from under the little freezer compartment and thick, pink slime slopped out. Splashed the floor, my feet, the bottoms of my pant legs. It was completely awful. It took a total of three hours to get it completely clean. I kept thinking I had it all done and then I'd step back and get a good look and realize that there was still mold somewhere else.
I threw away the rags I used to clean it, I didn't want them in my washing machine. And every time I think about it, I mutter curses. What a mess and what a nasty surprise.
Tonight, I was cleaning some of the crap in the back room. I had only a couple kids left, and could see them, so I was pulling things down off the top shelf. There was a box up there, but I couldn't see what was in it. The top shelf is seven feet off the floor, so I was using a stick to pull things to the edge, tilt them downward, then catch them as they fell. So I hooked the handle of the box with the stick and reached up to grab it. The box came open and three lbs of kinetic sand spilled all over the goddamn place. I'm lucky I didn't end up with a face full.
What kind of fucking moron puts something up high like that, doesn't seal the box (or hey, put the sand a BAG!!!) and doesn't label it? I swear that stupid twat is trying to kill me. Or at least drive me insane.
So I cleaned up a bunch of sand. There is still some left for the kids to play with in the morning. I'll see how it goes, but I have a feeling that it's going to end up in the dumpster along with a metric fuckton of things that I have zero use for.
Licensing laws say no to using egg cartons or toilet paper rolls, but there's a whole box of those on one of the lower shelves. I'll be hauling a packed-full recycling bin out, too. There were at least 50 coloring books in a bin on the bottom shelf. And every single page in every single one has been colored. Who saves something like that????
I know I'll be proceeding with caution from here on.
::sigh::
Hope you get to feeling better! Sure hate to be sickly over the holidays.
ReplyDeleteI am FINALLY (it's Monday the 28th) feeling better. Nose is still stuffy but I can breathe. Yay.
DeleteI hope you are feeling better soon! I hope you are better enough to enjoy your holiday. Happy Thanksgiving Ami
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving a little late, Peg. Sounds like you're keeping quite busy with Mr. Surgery and the Poo Dog. (would be a great name for a rock band, amiright??)
DeleteI hope you are feeling better now!! My site has basically been down for months and I've missed keeping up. Keilee had a sinus infection and double ear infections a couple of weeks ago. She is still coughing like crazy! Nice to 'catch' up a bit.
ReplyDeleteI have missed you so much!!! I saw 'I'm back' a couple weeks ago... but you weren't!! False advertising!!! :)
DeleteSo proud of how Keilee has taken off with the crochet thing... and her character business, too. I liked her page on Facebook and follow her YouTube channel, too.
I have said it before. I feel like her aunt. She makes me proud. :)
I am feeling good.
ugh. I am so sorry. Twits. But hey, I have a minor in Women's studies. I thought it was interesting--but I think that's separate from knowing what the hell you're doing. That's a management thing. :-D
ReplyDeleteWomen's studies may be interesting. I think giving college credit (and charging MONEY!!!) for it is ridiculous. So far, most of the people I've met who pursued 'women's studies' as part of their degree are airheads. Not all of them. But a good percentage. Definitely airheads where I'm working. Holy crap.
